Wal-Mart, Toshiba Sell Eco-Friendly Laptop

Toshiba today announced the availability of their first RoHS (Restriction on Hazardous Substance) notebook sold at U.S. retail. The Toshiba Satellite A55-S1064 is currently available through Wal-Mart for $697.

The Toshiba Satellite A55-S1064, said Toshiba, is a more environmental friendly computer whose standards are based off of a environmental directive set by the European Parliament that goes into effect on July 1 of this year. The goal of the directive is to restrict the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.

Fujistu Debuts LifeBook N Series Laptops

Computer maker Fujitsu yesterday announced plans to expand their consumer portfolio of computers with the introduction of the LifeBook N Series of desktop replacement notebooks. These four configurable laptops, which feature Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition 2005, have starting prices ranging from $1,199 to $1,649 and are available now.

Acer’s newest notebook the TravelMate 4020 is designed for home office or SOHO use and comes packed with an Intel Centrino chipset, PCI-Express technology (we assume graphics subsystem, although the graphics is integrated) 512MB of RAM (upgradeable to 2GB), a 1.6GHz Pentium M processor, integrated WiFi and Bluetooth and a 60GB hard drive.

The TravelMate 4020 notebooks come with Microsoft Windows XP Professional pre-installed (with Recovery CD) in addition to a complete selection of useful utilities. These utilities include Acer eManager (ePresentation, eSetting, ePowerManagement and eRecovery) and Acer GridVista. The first offering provides access to a number of notebook management utilities, while the second allows up to four windows to be screened simultaneously, each associated with a different application.

The LifeBook T4020 Tablet PC combines the convenience and familiarity of a notebook with the powerful and versatile functionality of a slate Tablet PC.  It is perfect for both users of vertical applications requiring inking or pen-driven navigation, and for mobile professionals who need an integrated keyboard and media drive.  Offering maximum flexibility, the LifeBook T4020 Tablet PC features the Intel Pentium  M Processor ULV 740 or 760, a bright 12.1” XGA display with a wide 160 degree viewing angle, optional Bluetooth and fingerprint sensor, and a long battery life.  The LifeBook T4020 Tablet PC also comes with a choice of either the Atheros Super AG or Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG network connection.

New Fujitsu Pen Notebook Ultra Small

Fujitsu has a new convertible notebook they’ve announced today which they are touting as the smallest and lightest pen-enabled device of its kind. The LifeBook P1500 series is available with a base configuration price of $1,499.

The P1500 series weighs in at 2.2 pounds, sports a compact 8.9” wide SVGA touch screen display and measures 9.3” x 6.57” 1.36”-1.46”. It is powered by Intel’s Pentinum M Processor Ultra Low Voltage 753 and its 915GMS chipset can accept up to 1GB of system memory. Other features include battery life of up to seven hours, shock mounted hard drive in 30GB and 60GB sizes and a biometric fingerprint swipe sensor.
