LaCie Huby Gets a Little Crazy

LaCie Huby Gets a Little Crazy

LaCie’s new Huby FireWire and USB hub makes claims on being a "work of art"—we’re not sure it belongs next to anything by Vermeer or Chagall, but its upside-down albino octopus motif will certainly get noticed on your desktop!

"LaCie has a history of merging innovative technology with forward-thinking design, for which we consistently receive accolades," said LaCie Product Manager Alexis Kobassian. "Even something as simple as a hub can be viewed as a design object. LaCie Huby’s unique shape sets it apart from any other hub on the market. It serves a function, but we also hope it sparks conversation about technology and design."

SanDisk 2GB Cruzer Titanium Flash Drive

Cruzer Titanium will be manufactured using an advanced Titanium alloy from Liquidmetal Technologies, commonly used for aerospace, medical devices, sporting goods and other applications that require lightweight strength and the ability to withstand extremes of temperature. This unique alloy is approximately 2.5 times the strength of titanium. Its superior strength, hardness, high corrosion and wear resistance make it ideal for the Cruzer Titanium.

Cruzer Titanium is preloaded with the full versions of value-added portable software programs. These include CruzerLock 2, a data file encryption program; CruzerSync(TM), which synchronizes with Outlook data; and Cruzer PocketCache, which allows for file backups with minimal memory consumption.

Datexx Pavio 30GB Personal Media Player

Quote from the review:

“Instead of dropping all your coin on a simple MP3 player, why not get a personal media player that not only plays MP3s, but also plays AVIs, displays pictures and records TV shows! With a 30GB internal hard drive, the Pavio does all that and possibly more.

I asked one of the reps from Datexx about future codec upgrades for video. It was mentioned that there would be software upgrades in the future to keep the unit up to date. One thing to note, the unit only supports Windows (98E/ME/2000/XP) and Mac (OS 9.X).”

SmartDisk Expands FireLite Line Of Drives

“All of our new FireLite models are a continuation of our strategy to offer affordable, high performance and high capacity portable hard drives,” according to Charles Klinker, Vice President, Marketing for SmartDisk.

FireLite drives are designed for users who require convenient, portable storage to backup critical data, transport and synchronize data between multiple computers, and free up valuable hard disk space on existing computers. FireLite drives are ideal for transferring large files between home and office, for storing hours of superior quality video or warehousing huge graphics files.

Messenger upgrade to disconnect outsiders

Starting October 15, users of older MSN clients must upgrade or they will be unable to connect to the service, says Microsoft. Users must be running at least Windows Messenger 4.7.2009, MSN Messenger 5 or MSN Messenger for Mac OS X 3.5.

Support for Mac OS 8 has been officially dropped, but Microsoft will issue MSN Messenger 2.5 for Mac OS 9 on August 27, which will support the new security policy.

Third-party clients, which Microsoft labels “unauthorized,” will also be adversely affected by the change.
