Mac Fan Plots Silent Protest at Macworld

Some Mac fans are mad as hell, and they’re not going to take it anymore. Their method of protest? Silence.

After Apple announced on Tuesday that it would officially be abstaining from an appearing at the Macworld expo after this year, Mac faithful have been expressing their disappointment in the company quite vocally on the Web. And Lesa Snider King, a Mac fan who actually got married at Macworld, has taken it to another level.

Macworld Names 2006 Eddy Award Wnners

Macworld Magazine has announced its 2006 Eddy Award winners for products and services deemed outstanding for their innovation, excellence, and value. Every year, Macworld reviews hundreds of products and tallies up the opinions of its editors, contributors, and other knowledgeable members of the larger Macintosh community—and this year, it invited the larger Mac-using audience to vote for two Readers’ Choice awards. Polling is closed, and the two winners will be announced December 14.

Apple Computer made a lot of press earlier this month by introducing Intel-powered iMacs and the new MacBook Pro notebook earlier this month at Macworld Expo, touting performance of the new iMac with the new Intel Core Duo CPU as being up to twice as fast as it PowerPC G5-based predecessor. Apple Users Threaten Suit Over IBook, IPod

As enthusiasts devoted to Apple prepare to descend on San Francisco next week for the annual Macworld conference, at least two online petitions have collected hundreds of signatures from potential plaintiffs seeking to file lawsuits over claims of defects in the iBook laptop.

Another growing source of complaints surrounds Apple’s wildly-popular iPod line of digital music players, which many enthusiasts believe will get an upgrade at Macworld with the introduction of smaller, less-expensive models and a range of case colors.

In California, a lawsuit seeking class-action status is expected to be filed January against the company over the claim that Apple’s warranty does not run long enough to cover problems with the player’s battery.
