Market research firm NPD, sales of video game hardware and software were down 17 percent in March 2009 compared to the same month a year ago, racking up $792.8 million in sales. Taken on its own, sales of video game hardware for the same period were down 18 percent compared to a year ago, puling in $455.6 million.

March DS Sales Top 5 Million
“Worldwide sales of the Nintendo DS handheld shot through the five million mark in mid-March, putting the company well within its five to six million unit target for the full year to March 31st according to the latest figures from Nintendo of America.
By contrast, the PlayStation Portable – which won’t launch in Europe until September 1st, a full five months after its North American debut – had sold somewhere over 2.5 million units worldwide by the end of March, missing Sony’s target of three million units by its financial year-end and placing global sales of the device at around half of what Nintendo’s handheld has sold.”
Canadian Music Industry Appeals Ruling
On March 13, Judge Konrad von Finckenstein of the Federal Court dismissed a request brought by CRIA that some of Canada’s largest Internet service providers be forced to turn over confidential customer information, which CRIA believes could help it sue 29 Canadians for copyright infringement.
