Bartz Starts To Ring The Changes At Yahoo

Since becoming chief executive at Yahoo, Carol Bartz has been keeping a low profile. But it seems she’s been looking around the company, and now she’s had time to study it, she’s started to make some changes. In a blog post, she said she’s undertaken "a whirlwind tour for the last six weeks" and now she’s "rolling out a new management structure that I believe will make Yahoo! a lot faster on its feet".

Gone is CFO Blake Jorgensen, who’s resigned, along with Marco Boerries, boss of Yahoo Connected Life, most of whose division becomes Yahoo Mobile, while Elisa Steele, from NetApp, will come on board as chief marketing officer.

Yahoo Releases Limited Mobile Beta

Yahoo has said that it’s begun offering an updated version of Yahoo Mobile in limited beta, which will eventually become an iPhone application as well as applications for Nokia, RIM, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and Motorola devices, not forgetting phones with Windows Mobile.

"We believe the new Yahoo Mobile will transform the way millions of mobile users around the world will interact with the Internet," Marco Boerries, executive VP of Yahoo, said in a statement. "Yahoo Mobile will enable users to create their own Internet starting point on their mobile device so they can better discover, connect to, and stay informed about the people and things that are important to them."

Yahoo onePlace to Manage Mobile Content

Although Yahoo is on the precipice of a takeover battle with technology giant Microsoft, the company today announced a new technology for mobile phone users dubbed onePlace. The new tool is designed to help mobile users organize and make sense of the sheer amount of content now available to mobile phone users by pulling it together in an instantly-organized, highly personalized, and constantly-updated place.

Yahoo oneSearch for Phones Goes Local

Internet giant Yahoo wants to prove it can out-do rival Google in the mobile Internet search arena, today taking the wraps off oneSearch, a new Internet search application available for any Internet-capable mobile phone. What makes mobile oneSearch different? Yahoo claims that most Internet searches executed from mobile phones are looking for local area information…so that’s exactly what oneSearch provides, presenting search results with a bias towards information specific to the searcher’s location and area.

Yahoo Inks Windows Mobile Deal with HTC

Internet giant Yahoo and Taiwan’s High Tech Computer Corp (HTC) have announced a new partnership which will see HTC preloading Yahoo Go, Yahoo Search, and Yahoo Mail on millions of HTC’s Windows Mobile smartphones.

“Since we launched Yahoo Go 2.0 less than two months ago, there has been strong demand from the Windows Mobile community to get this innovative service on their mobile devices,” said Marco Boerries, Yahoo’s senior VP of connected life, in a release. “By partnering with HTC to put Yahoo Go 2.0 on its mobile devices, we are bringing the true mobile Internet to an even broader audience around the world.”

Yahoo Says Go for Mobiles

In addition to buddying up with Apple on its iPhone, Yahoo wants to make sure its presence is felt in the rest of the mobile phone world with the announcement of Yahoo Go for Mobile 2.0, available now for download for use on selected Motorola’s RAZR handsets as well as more than 70 other mobile devices.

Yahoo Takes Services to Windows Smartphones

Yahoo announced today that its Yahoo Go for Mobile software is available today—for free—for users of devices running Windows Mobile like the Motorola Q and Palm Treo 700w.

“Today’s launch increases the number of consumers who can use Yahoo! Go for Mobile to stay connected to their community of friends, personalized content and favorite Internet services,” said Marco Boerries, Yahoo’s senior vice president for connected life, in a statement “We are making it even easier for more consumers to take the Yahoo! experience with them on their mobile phone.”

Yahoo and Motorola In Multi-Year Phone Pact

Internet giant Yahoo announced yesterday that it has entered into a multi-year deal with Motorola to embed Yahoo data services in millions of Motorola mobile phones. Under the terms of the deal, optimized mid-range and high-end Motorola phones will begin including the Yahoo Go for Mobile set of services (which includes email, web search, address books, photos sharing, and Yahoo Messenger) by early 2007.

Yahoo! Digs Into BlackBerries

Yahoo! and Research in Motion today expanded their relationship in a bid to bring more of the online portal’s services to users of RIM’s BlackBerry devices. This expanded relationship covers four areas: Yahoo! Go for Mobile, Yahoo! Search, Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger.

Under the terms of the updated relationship, the two companies said, Yahoo! and RIM are working together to bring Yahoo! Go for Mobile to the BlackBerry platform. This service integrates a full range Yahoo!’s products into a single application. Upcoming Yahoo! Mail improvements will allow users to experience real-time delivery of e-mail messages sent to their Yahoo! Mail accounts and better wireless synchronization of sent and deleted items as well as read/unread message status.

AT&T, Yahoo Launch Mobile Info Service
