The New York Times is reporting (subscription required) that satellite radio operator Sirius XM is preparing for a possible bankruptcy filing. According to the New York Times, Sirius XM owes about $175 million in debt repayments that are due at the end of February that it will not be able to pay. Although a bankruptcy filing is unlikely to disrupt service to the more than 45 million subscribers to satellite radio service, it may signal the departure of some of the broadcaster’s A-list talent…like Martha Stewart or Howard Stern.

Sirius Finally Draws Its Stiletto
If your life feels incomplete unless you can tune into the radiation beaming down from Sirius Satellite Radio, then you might want to check out the Stiletto 100, Sirius’s latest pocket-sized satellite radio designed to compete with recent portable systems from rival XM Satellite Radio.
The Stiletto 100 is a tiny, pocket-sized satellite radio receiver (measuring 4.7 inches by 2 inches by 1 inch) with 2 GB of onboard storage and a 2.2-inch LCD display. The Stiletto enables users to record up to 100 hours of Sirius content, either by automatically recording feeds from user’s favorite Sirius stations (up to 6 hours at a time) and enabling users to save up to 10 hours of individual music tracks from live Sirius broadcasts just by pressing the Stiletto’s "Love" button.

Sirius Canada to Launch With 100 Channels
Sirius Satellite Radio today revealed details of its line up as it gets ready to launch Sirius Canada broadcasting next month. The line up will consist of 100 channels of programming.
Sirius Canada, said Sirius, will have 60 channels of commercial-free rock, pop and classical music and 40 channels of news, sports and entertainment. Highlights of the new programming include 10 Canadian music and information stations such as CBC Radio One and RCI Plus broadcast in both English and French and 30 games of play-by-play NHL coverage per week.
Sirius Annouces Progamming Additions
There are some major programming line up changes coming to the Sirius Satellite Radio Network September 29, the company said today. Highlights of these changes include the addition of the Howard Stern and Martha Stewart channels.
While Stern will not actually start until January, his new channels will function in a preview mode to keep listeners aware of the build up to their formal launch. The Martha Stewart Living Radio, meanwhile, will focus on advice from Stewart’s team of experts as well as call in advice. The channel will ultimately expand to carry a full roster of shows covering a variety of topics such as cooking, pet keeping and weddings.
Sirius to Launch Martha Stewart Channel
The channel, the first of its kind, will provide original programming specifically designed for women listeners and their families, 24-hours-a-day, seven days-a-week.
Martha Stewart Living Radio will create programming focused on topics such as cooking, entertaining, gardening, home-keeping, decorating, holidays, collecting, health and whole living, crafts, andweddings, as well as how-to projects for parents and children, and information and tips for owners and their pets. Martha Stewart will be a regular presence on the channel and will be activelyinvolved with program development. Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia’s team of experts will also contribute. Martha Stewart Living Radio is expected to begin on SIRIUS later this year.
