Gateway’s new DMP-X20 digital jukebox

Priced at only $299.99  — $100 less than the 20GB Apple iPod — the Gateway DMP-X20 Digital Jukebox includes unique features like a built-in FM tuner, digital voice recorder and large 2.5 inch display.

The new Digital Jukebox was launched today at the Gateway store in New York City, where chairman and CEO Ted Waitt revealed the company’s dramatic retail transformation and unveiled 14 new products for businesses and consumers.

“Until now, consumers were forced to pay a premium for a high-capacity ultra-thin digital jukebox,” said Matt Milne, senior vice president and general manager of consumer solutions, Gateway, Inc. “The affordable price and abundance of features makes this a great holiday gift idea for music lovers of all ages.”

The Gateway DMP-X20’s large 20GB of storage capacity can house 5,000 MP3 songs — so an entire collection of great music can always be on hand. The new Gateway digital music jukebox is so thin and light it can be taken virtually anywhere; it measures only 3.9 x 2.6 x 0.83 (HxDxW) and weighs just 7.7 ounces. And while the size is small, the sound quality is big. The Gateway DMP-X20 delivers clean, crisp high-fidelity sound that will impress the most discerning audiophile.

The built-in FM tuner and digital voice recorder set the Gateway DMP-X20 apart from the competition. The FM tuner with 12 user-selectable presets lets music lovers quickly tune into their favorite radio stations on the go. The built-in digital voice recorder is a handy tool for recording meetings, lectures or making personal reminders.

The Gateway Digital Jukebox is simple to use, yet has several innovative features. It boasts the industry’s largest display in its class — the easy- to-read 2.5-inch display stylishly presents MP3 and other data with an indigo blue backlight. The intuitive scroll navigation makes accessing and managing content quick and easy. Music can be browsed by album, artist, genre, track or playlist, and modes such as shuffle and repeat personalize the music mix. Plus, music lovers can customize their listening experience with the five-band equalizer with six modes (five pre-set and one user-programmable).

The Gateway DMP-X20 Digital Jukebox is so versatile that it can also be used to transport photos, presentations and other types of electronic data. The lightning-fast USB 2.0 interface allows transfers as fast as a song per second — so the jukebox can be fully loaded with music in about an hour. Transferring downloaded MP3 and Windows Media Audio files from services like Napster is a snap, since the Gateway jukebox is compatible with existing and next-generation Windows Media DRMs.

Additionally, the Gateway DMP-X20 Digital Jukebox can store and play hundreds of hours of spoken word content from Audible.com, so Gateway customers can choose from Audible’s collection of 20,000 popular audio books, audio editions of leading newspapers and magazines, and public radio shows for convenient on-the-go listening. The Gateway DMP-X20 Digital Jukebox comes with a free one-month membership to Audible, giving customers any one audio book from Audible’s collection of 6,000, and any two one-month subscriptions from Audible’s subscription center — a $60 value.

After filling their Gateway jukebox with music and other content, Gateway customers have maximum listening time ahead of them, since the battery delivers more than 10 hours of play time on a single charge. The remote control, which comes standard with the Gateway DMP-X20, gives music lovers one-handed access to their jukebox while it is placed in a pocket, purse or bag. The new Gateway DMP-X20 Digital Jukebox comes with stereo earphones, USB 2.0 cable, RCA cable, AC adapter, case and a helpful Quick Start guide.

The Gateway DMP-X20 Digital Jukebox is priced at $299.99 , and Gateway is taking pre-orders for the product now online, by phone and in Gateway stores. The jukebox will be available nationwide on Nov. 26.

New Gateway DC-M42 & DC-T23 digital cameras

The two- and four-megapixel cameras were unveiled today at the Gateway store in New York City, where chairman and CEO Ted Waitt revealed the company’s dramatic retail transformation and unveiled 14 new products for businesses and consumers.

Gateway entered the digital camera market in late August with the same break-through pricing that made its 42-inch plasma TV the best seller in its category.   The company’s digital camera line met with rave reviews and far outpaced the company’s sales expectations.

The four-megapixel Gateway DC-M42 provides exceptional image quality at just $249.99. The high-performance camera produces stunning film- quality prints and large images up to 11 by 14 inches. Robust and feature- rich, it’s perfect for photographers who want advanced technology combined with outstanding value.

The new two-megapixel model, the Gateway DC-T23 features an ultra-compact design that’s slightly larger than a pack of gum.  The Gateway DC-T23 is priced at just $129.99.

“These new offerings are a testimony to the advantages of Gateway’s direct business model, which has enabled us to launch hot new products just in time for the holidays,” said Matt Milne, Gateway’s senior vice president and general manager of consumer solutions. “Our cutting-edge cameras continue to push the envelope in performance and features, enticing a wider audience of users to upgrade from their old film cameras to the convenience and flexibility of digital photography.”

In addition to family and event photography, Gateway’s digital cameras are an excellent tool for businesses.  For example, they’re ideal for human resource managers who produce corporate newsletters and real estate professionals who require photographs for showcasing residential and commercial properties.

The two new models are easy to use and connect to a PC for printing, sharing via the Internet and storing. The cameras’ USB connections make downloading images quick and easy.  And unlike most competing brands, Gateway offers Accidental Damage Protection, which safeguards consumers from losing their camera due to unintentional drops and spills.

Gateway introduces 56-Inch DLP television

With the top-selling plasma TV line in America, Gateway is moving quickly to offer consumers a wider selection of cutting-edge TVs that break new ground on value and features.  Overcoming two common objections to rear-projection TVs — bulk and price — the new Gateway 56-inch DLP or Digital Light Processing TV packs the benefits of rear projection into a package that’s one-third the size of traditional rear projection TVs.  Generating stunning HDTV pictures, it’s perfect for consumers who want a big HDTV monitor without the limited viewing angle and bulky design of standard rear-projection TVs.

Unlike competitive companies, Gateway’s three-channel strategy includes the ability to showcase thin TVs, home theater systems and other CE devices in its nationwide network of 190 stores.  This model enables consumers to evaluate how the products perform and work together before making a purchase decision.  According to Gateway’s customer satisfaction study, 94 percent of its TV customers during the past quarter reported making the purchase through a store, demonstrating the company’s distinct advantage with its multi-channel direct model.

Gateway has become a leader in home entertainment in less than a year. After launching its first thin television in November 2002, Gateway became the top U.S. seller of plasma screen TVs.  The company offers a full line of thin TVs — ten LCD, plasma and rear-projection models ranging from 13-inches to 56-inches.

“Gateway’s digital TV offering is unparalleled in terms of value, size and style,” said Matt Milne, Gateway’s senior vice president and general manager of consumer solutions.  “The addition of a rear projection model opens an entirely new market for Gateway and presents another opportunity for the company to bring more homes the benefits of digital technology at a great value.”

The rear projection TV is a comprehensive offering with built-in speakers and dual NTSC tuners.  It also extends the ability to connect external devices including DVI-based DVD players, HDTV tuners, gaming modules and VCRs.  Plus, it’s the perfect visual medium for Gateway home theater systems, which enhance the entertainment experience with dynamic surround sound.

Ideal for big living rooms, the striking size makes viewing favorite programs a superb home theater experience. Its 1280 x 720 (720p) native resolution and 1000:1 contrast ratio create exceptional image clarity.  The HDTV monitor(2) can receive a wide range of high-definition programming available now and coming soon.

Gateway to preload Napster software

Gateway, Inc. and Napster today announced that starting next month, Napster 2.0 software — plus 150 great
songs — will be pre-loaded on the hard drives of Gateway’s best-selling consumer notebook and desktop PCs.

Gateway also announced the launch of its RipBurnRespect(TM) interactive learning CD-ROM, which is being shipped now to some 3,000 Boys & Girls Clubs of America across the nation and has thepotential to reach three million club kids.

This year Gateway has been undergoing a sweeping transformation from a traditional PC maker to a branded integrator — a marketer of digital gear that works together.  These announcementsreflect the central role that online content delivery and protection play in Gateway’s strategy to expand consumers’ entertainment options.

At a New York City launch event for the new Napster 2.0 service, Matt Milne, Gateway’s general manager of digital solutions, announced Gateway’s unprecedented initiative to help teenagers understandtheir rights and responsibilities as consumers of online music and entertainment.

Long an advocate of consumers’ right to enjoy digital music legally, Gateway has begun distributing a 30-minute animated CD-ROM-based learning program designed to teach kids about the music businessthrough the experiences of a fictitious band, The Hydroliks.  Provided free of charge along with a promotional poster and background information to Boys & Girls Clubs, the RipBurnRespectCD-ROM is a fun, cool way for teenagers to discover how musicians and music professionals in supporting roles earn their living.

More information on the RipBurnRespect program is available at http://www.ripburnrespect.com .

The new Napster 2.0 is a paid service that compensates musicians and other copyright holders for their work.  Gateway now is pre-installing Napster 2.0 software on its most popular desktop andMedia Center PCs; later this year, Gateway will pre-install the software on every consumer notebook and desktop PC it sells.

Gateway is the sole PC maker preloading Napster software and content on its consumer PCs.

Gateway demonstrated the Napster software at the New York launch event on its new Gateway 610 Media Center, a sleek, all-in-one desktop design with the appearance of a 17-inch widescreen flat panelTV.  The PC utilizes Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004, so its vast entertainment capabilities can be accessed and enjoyed using a remote control from the comfort of a living roomcouch.

The Gateway 610 Media Center will begin shipping this month at a starting price of $1,499.

Gateway offers 1,000-watt sound for $1,000

The Gateway KAS-303 Home Theater System — which today takes its place at the top of the Gateway home theater system line-up — delivers stunning clarity backed up by 1,000 watts of power.  Priced at just $999(1) including the 6.1 receiver, progressive-scan DVD player, center channel speaker, five satellite speakers and subwoofer, it offers more power than most systems  costing twice as much.

Also today, the company expanded its LCD TV line to include a compact 13-inch version and a 30-inch 16:9 wide-screen model, making Gateway the premier destination for digital TVs.

Unlike traditional retailers and typical direct companies, Gateway has the ability to showcase home theater systems, thin TVs and other CE devices in its nationwide network of 190 stores.  This enables consumers to evaluate how the products perform and work together before making a purchase decision. Gateway’s consumer research during the past six months shows that roughly 85 percent of consumers expect to purchase CE products at a retail store, demonstrating the company’s distinct advantage with its multi-channel direct model.

The KAS-303 Gateway Home Theater System and new LCD TVs build on Gateway’s outstanding track record in home entertainment.  Less than a year after launching its first thin television, Gateway, Inc. has become America’s top seller of plasma screen TVs to consumers across all product sizes, surpassing Sony, Panasonic, Samsung and other traditional industry leaders, according to Gateway’s own figures.

“Gateway’s home theaters and full line of market-leading digital TVs bring a stunning cinematic experience to the comfort of home,” said Matt Milne, vice president of digital solutions, Gateway, Inc.  “Available at half the price of most competitive offerings, the powerful, 1,000-watt sound system creates a first-class entertainment experience without emptying our customer’s wallets.”

Gateway DV-S20 pocket multi-cam

Measuring only 3.5 x 2.5 x 1.2 inches and weighing only 4.3 ounces, the new Gateway DV-S20 Pocket Multi-Cam captures memorable moments — moving or still — in a case small enough to fit in a pocket or purse.  With its low price, Gateway’s digital multi-cam makes it fun and easy for teens, college students or families to capture life’s unexpected moments on the fly.

“People everywhere want to record memories of special events, or just have fun and make amateur films,” said Matt Milne, vice president and general manager, digital solutions group, Gateway, Inc.  “Gateway is raising the bar on convenience in this arena with a digital multi-cam that makes it easy to capture and share digital video and photography.  Better yet, it’s at a price even students can afford and in the new MPEG4 format that eliminates tapes altogether.”

According to the Consumer Electronics Association, digital camcorder sales are projected to grow by 28 percent this year and approach close to 5 million units by the year 2007.  Gateway’s entry into this fast-growing market is yet another milestone in its transition from a traditional PC company to a branded integrator — a marketer of digital gear that works together.  The company’s move into another consumer electronics segment is part of its unprecedented initiative to introduce 50 new Gateway-branded products in 15 categories this year.

Gateway dives into the wireless realm

The new products, including broadband routers and wireless adapters for portable and desktop computers, support the company’s branded integrator strategy of delivering digital gear that works together.  The new wireless networking products advance the company’s plan to launch 50 new Gateway-branded products in 15 categories this year and at the same time provide the means to linking many of the company’s new digital devices.

The new Gateway wireless networking products allow customers to easily and quickly connect PCs to other PCs or wireless-ready consumer electronics such as the Gateway Connected DVD player for sharing files, photos and music, as well as accessing the Internet.

Gateway launches affordable digital cameras

Priced at only $129.99, the Gateway(TM) DC-T20 delivers 2-megapixel image quality in an ultra-compact form factor that is just slightly thicker than a deck of cards. The Gateway DC-T50 combines performance in a stylish compact design, delivering 5-megapixel, film-quality prints at a price of $399.99.

Gateway delivers new MP3 player

The stylish, portable Gateway Digital Music Player — about the size of a pack of chewing gum — is really three products in one easy-to-use device: a
digital music player, USB storage device and digital voice recorder.  With 128MB(1) of storage space, the Gateway Digital Music Player has the data capacity of 88 floppy disks or two hours of music.  Its affordable price of just $129.99 makes it a must-have for anyone who wants to listen to music or carry PC files on the go.

Gateway’s entry into yet another consumer electronics category advances its goal of launching 50 new Gateway-branded products in 15 categories this year.  The Gateway Digital Music Player marks significant progress in Gateway’s evolution into a branded integrator — a marketer of digital gear that works together.

The sleek silver and black Gateway Digital Music Player connects directly to computers via a built-in USB port that is easily accessed, yet protected by the battery pack when not in use.  Downloading MP3 music, transferring files, and sharing digital photos takes only seconds, and is done without the use of cables, software or floppies thanks to plug-n-play USB connectivity. The Gateway Digital Music Player weighs only 1.5 ounces and measures just 0.5-inch wide, making it one of the thinnest MP3 players available.

“Gateway is committed to delivering digital products that make life more enjoyable,” said Matt Milne, vice president and general manager, digital
solutions group, Gateway, Inc.  “The Gateway Digital Music Player delivers on that promise, giving consumers an easy way to listen to music and access other files on the go.  Its sleek and compact design makes it an attractive solution for enjoying music and more.”

Ideal for music buffs, the Gateway Digital Music Player enables consumers to delete and format music files, as well as create custom play lists directly from the player.  And unlike some MP3 players, the Gateway MP3 has a three-line backlit display, so song data is easy to see and access. Delivering long battery life, it delivers more than 10 hours of playback from the player’s single “AAA” battery.  And for added convenience, the Gateway MP3 player comes with a neck strap, earbud stereo headphones, user’s guide, installation CD and one “AAA” battery.

The MP3 player’s high capacity and simple plug-and-play connectivity makes it a great portable storage device.  The 128MB version of the Gateway MP3 player holds up to two hours of digital music in MP3 or .WMA format or up to 122MB of data files.  The digital voice recorder can store up to nine hours of voice dictation — a handy tool for creating shopping lists, making personal reminders or recording class lectures.
