Glossy notebook screens seem to be popular amongst digital media consumers—perhaps they believe being able to see whether they have any spinach stuck in their teeth while using their system is a useful feature, we truly don’t know. However, a number of mobile computer users who work in bright environments—as well as designers, writers, and programmers—aren’t fond of glossy displays, and Apple annoyed almost all of them when it converted its entire MacBook Pro line over to glossy displays, beginning almost a year ago. A matte display has been an option on the high-end 17-inch MacBook Pro for a while, but now Apple is throwing a bone to its customers who prefer matte displays: for $50 extra, users can custom-order a matte display for the 15-inch MacBook Pro.

TDK Introduces PrintOn Recordable DVD Line
Available in three products that are all formulated specifically for direct-on-disc printing, PrintOn recordable DVD media offers customers an attractive personal alternative to labeling kits andhand labeling. TDK PrintOn DVD media is designed for use with compatible inkjet printers, such as Epson Stylus disc-printable models.
Chris Bailey, TDK Director of Recording Media, noted, “In a relatively short period of time, DVD has become a mainstream recording format for home and business applications. Although today’s customers rely on DVD media to store important data and cherished memories, they haven’t – until now – had an opportunity to create discs that have a fully finished, totally professional appearance.” He continued: “By giving customers the ability to easily create DVDs that equal the appearance of professionally produced discs, the new PrintOn DVD line blurs the distinction between discs that were inexpensively recorded at home and those that were created with large production budgets.”

Canton introduces Movie CD-1 speaker system
The package consists of four identical aluminum microspeakers, a matched horizontal center-channel, and small but powerful subwoofer.
Unlike many subwoofer-satellite mini-systems, the Movie CD-1 models are far more than just smaller speakers. Canton engineering and design advances in driver, circuitry, and cabinet design give the CD-1 satellites a frequency response of 80 Hz to 25 kHz from a speaker that measures just over 5-inches tall, and under 4-inches deep and wide. Among the advances that allow this feat are a new, proprietary 3-inch aluminum woofer, high-integrity aluminum housing, a 3.6 kHz crossover network, and a sophisticated passive filter circuit which blocks unwanted low-frequency signals that can generate harmonic distortions.
