Mitsubishi Says Laser is HDTV’s Future

Mitsubishi Digital Electronics, today at their annual dealer line show, showcased what they are calling the world’s first laser based, high definition television. Why should you care, you say? Because, according to Mitsubishi, this HDTV technology advancement “enables a completely new look in large screen television, both in high-performance picture reproduction and sleek, lightweight, and compact design”.

Mitsubishi Debuts HD-6000HDTV Set-Top Box

The HD-6000 includes a high definition PVR (personal video recorder) with a 120-gigabyte hard drive; an MPEG SD encoder; CableCARD(R) slot; AMVP2(TM), Mitsubishi’s second-generation Advanced Multimedia Video Processor; an all-format ATSC digital receiver; and an analog NTSC tuner. The unit also includes Mitsubishi’s NetCommand(R) 4.0 system control, PerfectColor(TM) 6-way color adjustment and TV Guide On Screen(R) electronic program guide.

Networking is easier than ever, as the HD-6000 comes with a wide array of analog and digital inputs and outputs, which, when matched with NetCommand, makes it the control center for a premier home theater system. The seven inputs include one HDMI, two composite video, two S-Video and three component video inputs. Outputs include one HDMI, one composite video, one S-Video and one component video, along with two FireWire(R) (IEEE 1394) digital home networking ports.

Mitsubishi introduces new DVD line-up

In the DVD category, the company introduced three new models of progressive players, the DD-6040, DD-7040 and the DD-8040. The DD-6040 features a slim chassis, improved remote control and full compatibility with standard DVD discs as well as CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R and decodes JPEG, MP3 and WMA. The DD-7040, in addition to all the features of the DD-6040, also includes DVD-Audio, with both six channel and Dolby Digital 5.1 output. The DD-8040 has all the features of the DD-7040 coupled with the Faroudja DCDi video processor. The DD-6040, DD-7040 and DD-8040 have a suggested value price (SVP) of $179, $249 and $299, respectively.
