Video graphics developer Nvidia has announced its new line of GTZ 200 graphics processors, starting with the GTX 260 and its larger, faster sibling, the GTX 280. Both systems feature Nvidia’s 3-WAY SLI technology, accelerated decoding of high-definition video, and packing in 192 and 240 processor cores, respectively.

The GTX 260 packs in 896 MB of dedicated video memory and a 448-bit memory interface bus width, along with a 576 MHz graphics clock and a 1,242 MHz processor clock, combining for a texture fill rate of 36.9 billion/sec. The 260 supports displays up to 2,560 by 1,600 pixels (with a max VGA resolution of 2,048 by 1,536 pixels), handles multiple monitors (2- and 3-way SLI capable too), and packs HDCP , HDMI, and S/PDIF outputs.

Verizon to Use 700 MHz Spectrum for LTE

Verizon to Use 700 MHz Spectrum for LTE

Verizon Wireless was the big winner in the FCC’s 700 MHz spectrum auction, paying some $9.36 billion for licenses in the 700 Mhz band, including the largest Class C block and 103 individual 700 MHz licenses around the country. Now that the anti-collusion quiet period surrounding the auction has expired, the company has revealed what it plans to do with the 700 MHz band: deploy a nationwide wireless broadband network based on Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology, with service expected to start up in 2010.

Verizon, AT&T Dominate 700 MHz Auction

Verizon and AT&T were the big winners in the FCC’s much-watched 700 MHz wireless spectrum auction (PDF), bidding more than $16 billion to control vast swathes of the soon-to-be-available spectrum that may be the United States best hope for nationwide wireless broadband services. The auction comprised a total of 1,099 licenses, including both nationwide blocks and many regional licenses.

Verizon Wireless won the largest nationwide C spectrum block, bidding $4.74 billion to narrowly outbid Internet titan Google, which bid $4.71 billion for the same block. Verizon also scored 25 regional licenses within the 700 MHz band, enabling it to roll out or sub-license services in those regions. Verizon now has licenses to 700 MHz services throughout the United States, save for Alaska, Puerto Rico, and the Gulf of Mexico.

NVIDIA’s GeForce 6800 And 6800 GT Review

Quote from the review ay Hexus.net:

“Currently, NVIDIA state that a 6800 Ultra is a full four quad NV40 (AGP part) running between 400 and 425MHz, with 256MB of GDDR3 memory running between 1100 and 1200MHz on a 256-bit memory bus, with a pair of DVI ports. Any 6-series board that meets those specs is a 6800 Ultra. Any board that comes clocked higher is able to be called an Ultra, according to NVIDIA’s marketing specs, but the GPU shipped to them by NVIDIA after sale is only warrantied up to 425MHz.

Infosync Reviews The Sony CLIE PEG-TH55

Quote from the review at Infosync World:

“The PEG-TH55 uses the same processor found in the UX50, dubbed the Sony Handheld Engine. It auto-throttles between 8 MHz and a modest 123 MHz, but provides more than enough power to drive normal applications at this resolution with music in the background. Web pages draw smoothly in the NetFront browser and generally there can be no performance complaints.

The TH55 offers 32 MB of user-accessible RAM, with a 32 MB ROM – a decent amount, but not top-of-the-range, and users will want to take advantage of the Memory Stick Pro slot. A 16 MB card came supplied with our test unit, but that may vary by market. ”

Sony Unveils Wi-Fi Clie PDA Pair

Both machines – the Clié TH55 and the Clié TJ37 – run Palm OS 5.2. But while the more consumer-focused TJ37 is based on Motorola’s ARM-based i.MXL processor, clocked at 200MHz, its high-end companion is based on Sony’s own Handheld Engine CPU. This runs at between 8MHz and 123MHz, depending on load, in a similar fashion to Intel’s SpeedStep technology for mobile Pentium processors.

The TH55 ships with 32MB, as does the TJ37, but while all of the high-end machine’s RAM is available to the user, only 23MB of the TJ37’s memory is accessible.
