Sony Gets Colorful with Vaio CR Notebooks

Although they’ve been anticipated for quite some time, Sony has officially taken the wraps off its forthcoming Vaio CR series of notebooks, based on the Santa Rosa platform, sporting 14.1-inch LCD displays, and soon to be available in a series of eye-catching colors designed to appeal to the fashion-forward set—or, at least, not not-quite-totally-geeky set.

“Just like the car you drive, notebooks today are an extension of your personality” said Mike Abary, Sony’s senior VP of VAIO product marketing. “As such, users expect their PC to reflect their creativity and individuality, as well as handle their spreadsheets.”

Sony today introduced a new notebook computer which has a built-in Blu-ray Disc drive. The VAIO FZ series will price for between $1,400 and $2,000 and should be available later this month.

The VAIO FZ series, said Sony, offers the Blu-ray Disc drive and a HDMI connector for connecting to a HDTV in the premium version. This line of laptops is powered by Intel Centrino Duo processor technology and gives users a 15.4-inch widescreen display with which to view content. Also onboard is Windows Vista, dedicated multimedia controls, 802.11n wireless technology, surround sound and LocationFree software for wirelessly viewing live TV with optional Sony equipment.

Sony Vaio N Series: Slim and Chic

Sony has announced its new Vaio N series, a set of notebook computers which aren’t designed for mobile use so much as in-home use, with chic styling and color options designed to balance form and function with the home decor of “culturally creative” individuals.

“From the furniture you sit on to the artwork you hang on your walls, you coordinate every aspect of your home’s style so why hide your PC?” said Mike Abary, Sony Electronics VP of VAIO product marketing. “These new notebooks are designed to accent your interior design, as well as your life.”

Sony Adds Smallest Vaio PC to Date

Sony today introduced their smallest Vaio PC to date which runs off of Microsoft XP Professional an Intel Core Solo Ultra Low Voltage CPU. The new Vaio UX Micro PC is priced at a starting configuration price of $1,799.99 and should be available in July.

Sony Debuts Blu-ray Disc Notebook Series

Sony today formally unveiled their first Blu-ray Disc enabled notebook computer. Available in standard ($1,799.99) and premium ($3,499.99) versions, the new Vaio AR Series is set to appear this summer.

The Vaio AR Series, said Sony, will offer a variety of next generation video viewing and general computer functions. The premium AR version specifically will play Blu-ray Disc high-definition content so one can enjoy movies in full 1080p HD resolution, incorporate a Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 graphics card featuring 256MB dedicated video memory, have the latest Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology and sport a high gloss, piano-black finish with silver trim and an illuminated VAIO logo.

Sony, Celebrities Team for Charity Laptops

Sony yesterday announced they’d teamed with celebrities Jessica Alba, Elijah Wood, Wilmer Valderrama, Mark Ruffalo and hip couple DJ AM and Nicole Richie to create artistic “designer laptops”. These laptops, based upon Sony’s VAIO FJ series notebooks, are being put up for auction to raise funds for America’s Second Harvest – The Nation’s Food Bank Network.

Sony Vaio XL1 Digital Living System Debuts

Sony earlier this week introduced the Vaio XL1 Digital Living System. Made up of two sleek looking components, this Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with Update Rollup 2 system is priced at $2,299.99 and should be available in November.

The Vaio XL1 Digital Living System, Sony said, brings together two different components: a home entertainment form factor PC and a 200 CD/DVD changer/burner. Consumers can load a disc into the changer and the PC will automatically detect and attempt to download metadata such as jewel case covers and in-depth synopsis of movies.

Sony Goes All in One with Vaio VA TV-PC

Sony today said they were looking to combine a full fledged computer with an LCD TV as they announced the new Vaio VA TV-PC. Set to be available later this month, the price point on this series will start at $1,999.99.

Sony Unveils Vaio AX Desktop Replacement

Sony is “bringing big screen entertainment” to the “portable platform” as today they announced their new Vaio AX Digital Studio PC desktop replacement notebook line. Priced at $2,000 or so and above, this notebook series is set to be available starting next month.

The Vaio AX notebook offers a number of features which Sony feels will provide that big screen entertainment feel. These include a 17” WXGA+ widescreen display with Sony’s Xbrite LCD technology, a removable TV tuner, Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with Update Rollup 2, a DVD+R Double Layer/DVD+/-RW Drive, a multi-function bay for swapping out components and a 0.3 megapixel digital camera.

Sony Goes Hip with Colorful FJ Notebooks

Sony today said they were bringing to market a new line of slim, portable notebooks which are geared toward the fashion conscious. The FJ series of Vaio notebooks is set to start pricing at around $1400.

The FJ series comes in one of five colors: black, white, blue, green and red. The casings are accented by similar shades on the bezels and palm rests of each PC. Features of the FJ series include a full sized keyboard, a 14.1
