Blizzard Entertainment has announced that the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack for its popular World of Warcraft massively online multiplayer role-playing game will land at North American retailers November 13. Folks in other markets won’t have to wait very long to get their hands on the game, though: Europe, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Russia are also scheduled to get the expansion pack the 13th, with Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand getting it November 14th, with Korea, Hong Kon, Macau, and Taiwan getting the game November 18.

World Of Warcraft Tournament Announced
Blizzard Entertainment, the company behind the remarkably popular World of Warcraft online game, has announcedthat it will hold a new competition – a tournament, if you will. According to Vnunet, special “realms” will be created for thecompetition, meaning users will be able to create customized level-70 characters who have top-level equipment. The focus will evidently be on tactics. The tournament will get underway in Aprilwith two rounds of global qualifiers that run for six weeks. Competitors will have to pay an entry free of around $25. Teams entering will compete on the existing Arena system. The top fourteams from each round will move to regional finals where they will go head to head for $27,000 in cash. Each team will have three players, with another three as reserves. Eachregion’s winners will advance to a global final where the prizes total more than $120,000, including the grand prize of $75,000. Mike Morhaime, chief executive and co-founder of BlizzardEntertainment, said, "We are pleased to expand World of Warcraft’s tournament options for players who want to focus mainly on the competitive aspect of the game."

The pool of World of Warcraft diehards just keeps getting bigger. Although the game is going on three years old, it has only become more popular with time: Blizzard reported Tuesday that the game now has 9 million subscribers worldwide.

Blizzard Entertainment has announced that the much-anticipated The Burning Crusade expansion to its popular World of Warcraft massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) will ship in January, 2007, rather than in time for the 2006 end-of-year holidays.
The expansion pack adds new races and territories to the online game, as well as enables players to create more powerful characters. The fastest-growing massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) has also shattered all previous concurrency records in North America, achieving over 200,000 simultaneous players duringthe holiday period.

World of Warcraft Shatters Sales Record
World of Warcraft, the company’s subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), sold through to over 240,000 customers at retailers in North America on Tuesday, November23, selling more in its first 24 hours than any other PC game in history.
In addition to shattering sales records, World of Warcraft also broke peak concurrency and account creation records for a MMORPG. Within the first day, over 200,000 players created World of Warcraft accounts. By 5:00 p.m. PST, over 100,000 were playing the game concurrently. These two record-breaking numbers made World of Warcraft the fastest-growing MMORPG in history. Within a single day, all original 40+ World of Warcraft servers were filled to capacity, and by the end of the Thanksgiving weekend, more than 40 additional servers were deployed to meet the rapidly growing player base, as the number of new accounts and concurrent users continued to grow.
