Tiger Woods Goes Web 2.0 with Subscription-Based PGA Game

Though most of the titles to show up at this year’s E3 will hit physical shelves in cardboard boxes any number of months later, Electronic Arts has decided to dip its toe into a Web 2.0 model of distribution on one title: Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online will allow users to pay for their gaming experience monthly and play through a browser, rather than buying a disc and installing it.

The company announced the rather unusual distribution model for its title – which calls to mind Quake Live – on Friday, amid news of its other more conventional releases.

EA Passes Arena Football to Gamers

Electronic Arts today said they’d begun shipping Arena Football to stores nationwide. The game is priced at $29.99 for both the PlayStation 2 and Xbox video game systems and is rated E10+ by the ESRB.

Arena Footall, EA said, allows gamers to experience the indoor gridiron from the comfort of their sofas. Features of this game include a “Be the Receiver” mode which allows players to take control a receiver from the snap and create routes on the fly, an in-game information system which reports such things as passing tendencies and player health and fatigue levels and a franchise mode for building up a team from the start of the season through to the ArenaBowl championship.
