Seven inches is a lot of screen. This much is immediately obvious as you approach Mio’s booth on the CES show floor, where the S700 looks like a TV that accidentally got shuffled in with a bunch of GPS units. But make no mistake, this is a nav unit.

The goliath GPS crowns the top of Mio’s new S series, which was unveiled here in Las Vegas on Thursday, and though the seven-inch LCD is the main attraction, that’s not all that’s new. Mio has taken some cues from sibling company Navman (both owned by parent company Mitac) and completely reworked the interface too, producing a new way of navigating that places all the icons for different function on one scrollable main page, which it calls Spirit.

Mio Delivers Entry Level GPS Device

Personal GPS navigation device supplier Mio Technology is at it again with a new entry level GPS device. The Mio DigiWalker C220 is priced at around $250 and should be available now.

The Mio DigiWalker C220, which is a follow up to Mio’s self proclaimed popular DigiWalker C310x, is noted by the company as coming equipped with more than 3.5 million points of interest and offering a stylish look. This GPS unit comes with U.S. maps (Alaska and Hawaii included) preloaded on an SD card and offers general features like turn-by-turn voice and text navigation to help guide a driver to his destination.

Mio Announces New Portable GPS System

Mio Technology, a San Francisco Bay Area based company which markets GPS products under its DigiWalker brand, introduced a new family member today as part of a worldwide roll out. The Mio 269, priced at $799, offers a 2.5GB hard drive which comes pre-loaded with detailed maps of the continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii and Canada.

The Mio 269 sports itself in a compact case (5 ½” x 3 x 1”) with a touch sensitive 3.5-inch color LCD and integrated GPS antenna. It’s powered by an Intel 300 MHz CPU and offers 32MB of flash ROM and 64MB of SDRAM for its Windows CE based operating system.

Mio 8380 Smartphone is released

Industry heavyweights including Evans Tu, CEO & President of Synnex Technology International Corp., Mark Johnston, Director of Intel’s Communications Products Sales Division for the Asia-PacificRegion, Eunice Chiou, General Manager of Microsoft Taiwan Corporation, and Eddie Wu, Senior Director OEM Department of Microsoft Taiwan Corporation were present to lend their support to the launch ofMiTAC’s first WindowsR Powered Smartphone, giving extra momentum to the Mio 8380 as it makes its market debut. Additionally, Chunghwa Telecom, Far Eastone Communications, and other telecom operatorswere represented at the launch by top-level executives, further testifying to the high level of interest MiTAC’s new phone is being accorded in many quarters of the industry.

A MiTAC spokesperson stated, “As the global Internet infrastructure as well as digital broadband and wireless networks mature, MiTAC is extremely optimistic that the wireless Internet access market will take off. In the past year, MiTAC has devoted itself to promoting services that integrate M-Commerce (Mobile Commerce) and M-Life (Mobile Life), while at the same time launching its own Mio DigiWalker-branded Pocket PC devices. As a sequel to these Pocket PC products, MiTAC is introducing its very latest product: its first smartphone, the Mio 8380. The release of the Mio 8380 not only demonstrates MiTAC’s determination and commitment to expanding its business to encompass telecommunications, but also makes MiTAC just the second manufacturer in the world to deliver a smartphone to the market.
