The LCD panel used for existing PMPs is generally 3.5 inches and has 4:3 ratio. When a 16:9 Digital Internet Video eXpress (Divx) file is played in the current format, the screen is not fully utilized, particularly at the top and bottom of the screen.

Samsung Develops Multimedia Memory Cards
Samsung announced today that it has developed new memory cards that carry both Samsung flash memory and an in-house designed card controller, meeting the standard announced earlier this year by theMultiMediaCard Association (MMCA), an open standard memory card organization. The new memory cards, introduced in two formats full size and reduced size under the respective brands MMCplus andMMCmobile, are backward compatible with the MMC card as the conventional MMC host will configure and adjust to the new interface.
Cell Phone Games Take Leap Into 3D
Companies are working to introduce more sophisticated games to mobile handsets, which will have powerful graphics chips to make the realistic images possible.
The switch from stubby cartoon figures to graceful golfers and lifelike superheroes is likely to be swift, said Neil Trevett, the president of the Khronos Group, an industry association that works on 3D standards for cell phones. “The same thing that happened in the mid-’90s to bring 3D graphics to PCs is happening now with cell phones,” he said, “only it’s all happening about three or four times faster. We call it cell phone time.”
Hard Disks Not Yet Ready For Mobile Phones
Although the concept could make any mobility geek salivate, research firm IDC dismisses the viability of placing hard disk storage units in mobile phones – for the time being.

According to new research from IDC, however, the incorporation of hard disk drives (HDDs) into mobile handsets will require a number of further evolutionary steps before HDD-enabled mobile phones will represent a beneficial investment for consumers and enterprises.
