Liberate iTunes Media with doubleTwist

Everyone knows that sharing media between devices can be a nightmare: sure, images, generally go across fine, but if you want to share your music playlists with a friend, there’s usually a good amount of time-wasting figuring out how to get the files across. And if an iPod and Apple’s FairPlay DRM are involved, things get even more complicated.

Enter doubleTwist, a new desktop application from Jon Lech Johansen, better known as DVD Jonn. Available now for Windows (with Mac OS X support promised in the second quarter), doubleTwist purports to let people share media between friends and family as well as sync media with popular devices like the Sony PSP, Nokia N Series phones, Windows Mobile devices, and more. Even if that media is in iTunes and protected by Apple’s FairPlay DRM.

Fujistu Debuts LifeBook N Series Laptops

Computer maker Fujitsu yesterday announced plans to expand their consumer portfolio of computers with the introduction of the LifeBook N Series of desktop replacement notebooks. These four configurable laptops, which feature Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition 2005, have starting prices ranging from $1,199 to $1,649 and are available now.

Request Adds New AudioRequest ServersHome entertainment company Request this week announced some additions to their AudioRequestdigital music systems. The N.Series and F.Series, which serve as primary storage for music collections, are set to be available this fall for prices ranging from $2,500 to $5,000.   Eachsystem can store up to 500 CDs or more. They are powered by a Linux based operating system which offers a variety of music encoding options including WAV and FLAC formats. Control of these systemscan be handled through their touch screen compatible graphic interface. Music collections can be accessed by artist, album, genre and song and the options for creating playlists exist.   TheF.Series allows music to be independently sent two or four remote rooms or zones with control over program selection and play/pause. Additional zones and rooms can be added to the F.Series setup. TheN.Series, meanwhile, is designed for single system integration.   Both series can integrate with digital audio players such as the iPod and are networkable. Music collections stored on thesedevices can also be accessed via an Internet connection as well.   The AudioRequest systems come in all metal cabinets with solid aluminum fronts. They are rack mountable and feature removablehard drives. They also include a built-in front panel CD tray, rear USB ports and analog and digital audio and video outputs.
