Storage and peripheral vendor LaCie has taken the wraps off its new LaCinema Classic Hard Disk, which looks to bridge the gap between a traditional hard drive storing photos, music, and video, and a media device users hook up to their HDTVs or living room setups in order to enjoy their digital media. The LaCinema Classic Hard Disk offers either 500 GB or 1 TB of storage capacity, and users can load it up via USB 20=.0 from any PC. One the media has transferred, users can then hook the drive up to their living room setup via HDMI, composite video, and/or S/PDIF and stereo audio output to enjoy their media on their HDTVs or home music setups. The LaCinema drive supports MPEG-4 AVI, XviD, and DivX video, WMA and MP3 audio, and JPEG and HD-JPEG images—and it’ll upscale video to 1080p resolution and supports both PAL and NTSC output.

LaCie Takes Rugged Hard Disk to 500 GB
LaCie has announced a new 500 GB version of its Rugged Hard Disk, available with either a USB 2.0 interface or with FireWire 400, FireWire 800, and USB 2.0 interfaces. And even better for storage fiends on the go, the drives are bus-powered, so there’s no need to carry around a separate external AC adapter…although folks with low-power USB ports will need to use the included power-sharing USB 2.0 cable that can draw more juice off a second USB port.
LaCie Rolls Out Triple-Interface HDD
Peripheral and accessory maker LaCie has long believed that a hard disk only gets better if it sports a designer case—that’s why the company has pulled in industrial designers like Sam Hecht, F. A. Porsche, and Ora-Ïto to spiff up its storage offerings. But the company apparently also believes a hard disk isn’t any good unless you can plug it into a computer, and to that end the company has revamped the LaCie Hard Disk—design by Neil Poulton—to sport not one, not two, but three interfaces so users can plug it into darn near any system they like. The black LaCie Hard Disk sports a blue underglow courtesy of a blue LED, comes in 500 GB, 750 GB, and 1 TB capacities, and offers USB 2.0, FireWire 400, and eSATA interfaces.
