Netgear WNDR3700 Review

Summary

Netgear’s WNDR3700 has all the features we’ve come to expect from high-end routers, including a dual-band radio that enables you to operate two networks on different frequency bands, a USB port for attaching shared storage, the ability to establish a guest network (two, in fact), and, of course, support for the IEEE 802.11n standard. But the WNDR3700 also has a few features that we haven’t seen in any router, including the ability to monitor and even limit the amount of data that can be downloaded from or uploaded to the Internet, a valuable benefit if your Internet service provider caps your bandwidth and charges you for exceeding that cap. Still, there’s one feature that’s missing: The ability to share an attached printer over a network.

Netgear Digital Entertainer Elite EVA9150 Review

Summary

Streaming standard-def movies from computers and remote hard drives to televisions has been old hat for years now. But for high-def connoisseurs looking to step up to the good stuff – pure 1080p digital content – extreme file size and bandwidth constraints have severely hampered streaming and storage. The EVA9150 solves that issue with 802.11n networking capabilities for more bandwidth, and an onboard 500GB drive for storage and buffering, making it one of the few boxes capable of streaming Blu-ray quality video. If you’re looking to go discless, this machine’s the ticket – but is it worth the price?

Netgear Internet TV Player Review

With the NETGEAR Internet TV Player Internet video has never been so fun, because now you can enjoy it on your television. Just plug it into your TV and connect it to the Internet, and the world of Internet video is at your fingertips. And since you watch it on your TV, not your PC, you can share the fun with your family and friends.

Netgear enhances router line, adds IPTV

Netgear enhances router line, adds IPTV

Netgear has added two new powerful routers to their line-up, will offer new digital streaming products (one that lets you access YouTube.com videos easily with a cool search mechanism), and has announced a new business unit that will sell direct to the small biz market. Unfortunately, the one missing item from their CES showfloor is a 450Mbps router to match the new products that D-Link and Trendnet announced this week.

According to Netgear, the 450Mbps market is still new and emerging and consumers have not necessarily requested the faster models which break the 100 Mbps barrier and may not want to pay more than $200 for a router.

Netgear Demonstrates 2009 Offerings

Netgear’s characteristically small CES press conference held few surprises this year, but 2009 promises to be a fruitful year for media enthusiasts with a need to bring content from the Web and their computers to the their TVs. The company’s general manager of home and consumer products, Vivek Pathela, demonstrated three of the 15 new products the company will unveil at this year’s expo.

Netgear’s Green Routers Get Power Switches

Wireless routers may not traditionally be among the best-known energy hogs of the computing world, but that hasn’t stopped Netgear from attempting to make them even more environmentally friendly with “Netgear Green” features on its latest 802.11n routers. The company announced the new label, along with two near wireless-N routers on Monday.

The WNR2000 and DGN2000 both deliver high-speed wireless connectivity using the latest 802.11n standard, with the latter router also including a built-in DSL modem, eliminating the need for two separate boxes.

NETGEAR WG111 Wireless-G USB 2.0 Review

Summary

NETGEAR’s 54 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter enables 54 Mbps wireless Internet access to either your desktop or notebook PC. Its antenna technology delivers greater range so you can move extended distances without losing your connection. Setup is now made quick and easy with a Smart Wizard install assistant. High-level WEP encryption shields your network from wireless eavesdroppers without sacrificing performance.

This adapter supports office roaming for notebook PC users for shared broadband Internet access and resources. Gives you untethered mobility at home, the office, the airport, and other public hotspots. NETGEAR’s Wireless LAN Manager lets you create profiles that reflect specific WLAN settings for each place you travel.

Netgear EVA8000 Review

Summary

I’ve tried a number of media centers over the years. And, sadly, in large part, they’ve stunk big time – mostly due to uneven performance as the device and the PC seemed less interested in meshing together and more in protecting their own “turf.”

But don’t think I’m getting ready to trash Netgear’s Digital Entertainer. True, there’s no hard drive, so it has to rely on a PC to stream content as well as access a number of functions. Nonetheless, within the parameters of an imperfect world, it does what it’s supposed to exactly right. And that retail price of $399 slides down easy too.
