The dream of a keyboard with customizable OLED keys that change to anything you want lives on. Though our experience with the very first OLED keyboard soured us a bit to the idea (and if you actually bought an Optimus Maximus, put you out $1,877), other companies are starting to take Art Lebedev’s lofty aspiration and distill it down into something practical.

OCZ Gets Affordable with Agility Series 2.5-inch SSDs
Lots of folks are considering transitioning to solid-state drives (SSDs) to increase battery life in their notebook computers…or simply to have the piece of mind knowing that bumps and shocks aren’t going to destroy data by causing a head crash or other failure of moving and spinning parts. Storage developer OCZ Technology has been pushing out SSD drives for some time, but for the most part they’ve been eyeing the high end of the market, producing drives aimed at servers and other high-performance applications. Now as SSDs are getting increasingly mainstream OCZ is too: today the company announced its new Agility series of solid state drives at consumer-friendly prices.
OCZ Neutrino DIY Netbook
Unless you consider a tacky paint job and tangle of USB accessories “modding,” the arena of portable computing doesn’t hold much promise for creative, tinkering types. Or traditionally hasn’t, anyway. Mod-friendly manufacturer OCZ hopes to change that with its Neutrino DIY netbook.
Though you won’t exactly be able to outfit this little guy with neon lights and a GeForce card, OCZ will basically allow buyers to pick their hardware from the factory, and have the Neutrino delivered as a box of parts requiring do-it-yourself assembly.
OCZ’s Mainstream Apex SSDs Hit 250 GB
OCZ Technologies has introduced its new Apex series of 2.5-inch SATA II 2.5-inch solid-state drives, offering the performance, power-savings, and stability of SSD drives at price points that will appeal to mid-range computer users…and capacities that would appeal to just about anyone. The new Apex series are available in 60, 120, and 250 GB capacities and sport seek times between 0.2 and 0.3 milliseconds.
“As the adoption of SSD drives continues to ramp, it is our goal to enable everyday consumers to take advantage of the benefits of solid state drives,” said OCZ director of project management Eugene Chang, in a statement.
OCZ Cranks up Performance with Core V2 SSDs
Last we heard from OCZ, the Sunnyvale, Calif. company was unveiling an ultra-cheap line of solid-state drives designed to bring down the astronomic prices that have kept many consumers away from SSDs. Now the company has introduced its new Core Series V2 SATA II 2.5-inch drives, which will focus more on improvements to storage capacity and speed than price concerns.
That focus on performance shows up in the new drives’ impressive specs. They will be available in sizes up to 250GB, boast read times of 170 MB/s, write times of 98 MB/s, and seek times between 0.2 and 0.3 milliseconds – all numbers that put them a notch above the recently unveiled budget drives.
Samsung Begins Producing 128GB SSDs
With OCZ Technology creating a stir by rolling out affordable 128GB solid-state drives earlier this month, Samsung finally sprang into action and got its own 128GB line into production on Wednesday. The company promises the multi-level-cell (MLC) technology in the new drives will cut price even lower than previous offerings.
Unlike OCZ’s drives, which will only be available in a 2.5-inch form factor, Samsung will offer both 1.8- and 2.5-inch drives with the same 128GB capacity. Performance will take a slight dive due to the cost-cutting MLC technology, but still remain snappier than a conventional drive with 70MB/s write speeds and 90MB/s read speeds. Power consumption will also be superior, with the drives consuming a maximum of 0.5 watts when active, and only 0.2 when idling.
OCZ Reveals Ultra-Cheap Core Series SSDs
The solid-state drive market has made huge strides in boosting capacity throughout the past few years, but for those without deep pockets, the lightweight and reliable drives still remain mostly out of reach. OCZ Technology is hoping to change that with its new Core Series of SSDs, announced Tuesday, which the company claims will be 50 percent cheaper than competing drives on a price-per-gigabyte basis.
The 32GB, 64GB and 128GB drives will sell for $169, $259 and $479, respectively. That puts them relatively close to newcomers like Transcend on the low-capacity side of things, but completely in a league of their own when it comes to 128GB prices.
OCZ Equalizer Laser Gaming Mouse
OCZ Technology Group isn’t exactly a name which rolls off the tongue when one thinks of computer gaming peripherals. OCZ, normally known for manufacturing high-performance memory and components, hopes to change that by unveiling a new PC gaming mouse known as the OCZ Equalizer Laser Mouse.
One thing you will notice right away about the OCZ Equalizer Laser Mouse is its bold blue design. This mouse body houses a rodent ready to game. One of the chief features of this mouse is its Triple Threat button. This button, set near the scroll wheel, is normally used for double click actions like opening documents. When engaged in game mode however, the Triple Threat button boosts a gamer’s fire rate by providing a firing rate of three times for each click.
