Anyone who’s set up a home theater with surround sound knows what a pain setup and calibration can be. First of all, the idea of surround sound is great until you try to get speakers set up around your bookshelves, umbrella stands, pet beds, end tables, lamps, and (let’s not forget) furniture. Once the speakers are set in no-doubt less-than-ideal spots, you get to spend hours calibrating your audio. Just when it sounds great, you move your head six inches to the left and all the dialog gets muddy. Great.

Blaupunkt Car Stereo Handles SD Media
Never let it be said the digital media revolution is bypassing the car audio industry: Blaupunkt has just taken the wraps off its new Melbourne SD27 car stereo system. Instead of offering a traditional CD player/changer or even a dock for those iPod things all the kids are carrying, the Melbourne SD27 opts for a front-panel auxilliary input, and an SD/MMC card slot so owners can use a PC to load up removable media with their tunes, then and pop them directly into their consoles. No muss no fuss.
CEA: Flat Panels Are In
New research out this week from the Consumer Electronics Association suggests a growing number of consumers are embracing flat panel televisions as the wave of the future. This, with other types of televisions thrown in as well, comes in to the estimated tune of $22 billion worth of TVs shipping before year’s end.
The CEA’s numbers, said the trade group, indicate that while only 17 percent of consumers currently own a flat panel display, 49 percent say their next television purchase will be some type of flat panel technology. It was found that about half of consumers are familiar with the term “flat panel TVâ€, but plasma is the most recognized flat panel technology. Additionally, many consumers were unsure what technology they currently own and the differences between the newer available technologies.

SonyCorp Develops Roll-up Display Panel
According to Forbes.com, researchers from SonyCorp and the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research developed a highly flexible and thin display panel. Sony aims to commercialize products based on the new display technology, applying it to televisions and mobile phones, around 2010, the business daily said.
The prototype display is 6.3cm square and 0.35mm thick. Its picture resolution is higher than the current 50 dpi of bendable displays and even higher than the 72 dpi of a typical LCD panel, the report said.
Shuttle SN25P Review
Quote from the review at HardOCP:
“The SN25P is Shuttle’s latest foray in to the Athlon64 socket 939 market. This system is designed with the much hyped NVIDIA nForce4 MCP chipset, supporting all Athlon64-based socket 939 CPUs, DDR RAM modules operating in Dual Channel mode, and PCI Express x16 type video cards. Being a small form factor solution means that the SN25P requires the minimum amount of components for a functioning system, including the following: Athlon64 socket 939 CPU, DDR memory, and a PCI Express x16 video card. The following components have been integrated in to the SN25P’s design: 1 IDE ATA-133 port; 4 SATA-300 ports (both IDE and SATA ports are RAID 0 and 1 capable); 1 floppy port; 6 USB 2.0 capable ports (4 in rear panel, and 2 in front panel); 2 IEEE 1394 capable ports (1 in rear panel, 1 in front panel); 1 Marvell Gigabit Ethernet port in rear panel; VIA Envy24 8-channel audio codec featuring S/PDIF optical input / output and RCA output ports; and serial and PS/2 port support.”
