Gateway 901 family room media center PC

Unlike any other PC on the market today, the Gateway 901 Family Room Media Center boasts a sleek, new form factor that looks and feels like A/V equipment in the entertainment center.  The new device seamlessly brings digital media and entertainment into the family room — so great features like the Personal Video Recorder (PVR), TV tuner, DVD player, DVD recorder (select model), CD player/recorder and FM radio can all be enjoyed from one easy-to-use device. Plus, the unique Gateway 901 is also a high-performance PC, so now it’s possible to get the ultimate gaming experience, surf the Internet and work on the PC from the comfort of the couch.

“People want to unleash digital entertainment and enjoy it where they spend most of their time,” said John Engel, senior vice president and general manager of Gateway’s PC Products group.  “They want to listen to digital music, watch home movies, view digital photos, play PC games, record live television, and surf the web in the family room. The new Gateway 901 Family Room Media Center naturally extends the benefits of digital media, entertainment and information to the family room.”

The Gateway 901 Family Room Media Center is the ideal system for anyone who has ever crowded family and friends around their PC to share photos of their vacation — or for anyone who missed the TV weather report and would simply like to check the weather online without having to boot up their PC in the den.  The Gateway 901 will also be used in new ways thanks to Microsoft’s Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 and Gateway innovation. Some of the most exciting features of Gateway 901 Media Center PC are:

Gateway Profile 5 all-in-one PC saves space

With this latest iteration of Gateway’s popular Profile PC line, the Gateway Profile 5 is not only field serviceable like traditional desktops — allowing IT personnel to replace LCDs and motherboards — but also priced competitively with similarly configured business tower PC+LCD systems. In addition, the Gateway Profile 5 offers unprecedented flexibility, with three distinct flat-panel screen sizes available (15-inch, 17-inch and 19-inch).

The Gateway Profile 5 — the company’s fifth-generation model — extends the company’s growing line of products for businesses and institutions, including WiFi(R)-enabled notebook PCs, storage systems and rack-mount servers.  Today’s announcement marks another milestone in Gateway’s evolution to a branded integrator — a marketer of front- and back-office technologies that work together.

The Gateway Profile 5 has been improved with a number of new features, including a field-serviceable chassis that minimizes maintenance time and costs, an adjustable LCD display for improved ergonomics, and enhanced performance with the latest desktop technology.  These enhancements further complement the space-saving benefits of the innovative “PC behind-the-screen” design, which combines the computer and flat panel LCD into a single unit in a footprint smaller than a CRT monitor.

In addition to its enhanced feature set, the Gateway Profile 5 is offered in several configurations at industry-leading prices ranging from $1,099 to $2,499. And unlike other all-in-one PCs sold at up to a $600 premium over similarly configured tower desktop PCs, the Gateway Profile 5 is priced as little as $100 more.

“Gateway once again is breaking ground with the Gateway Profile 5 all-in- one, which delivers the same power as traditional, larger-footprint desktop PCs, in a design that meets the unique needs of businesses and organizations,” said John Engel, senior vice president and general manager of Gateway’s PC Products division. “Dramatic improvements in the serviceability, usability, design and performance of the Gateway Profile line culminate in the new Gateway Profile 5.  This new PC gives businesses and organizations greater ability to extend the life of their investment while protecting their budget and limited office space.”

The new PC is geared for businesses and institutions that need a small form-factor, stylish PC for high-traffic areas where space is at a premium, such as information desks in malls, reception desks, hotel lobbies and foyers of office buildings.  Medical offices, labs, and classrooms will also benefit from the PC’s small form factor and powerful performance. Select configurations come with integrated WiFi 802.11g wireless connectivity, as well as the option for a wireless keyboard and mouse for a wire-free, aesthetically pleasing solution.

Businesses and institutions know that the latest technology can improve user productivity.  The Gateway Profile 5 comes standard with integrated 10/100 or 10/100/1000 Ethernet to ensure a fast network connection, while Intel(R) LANDesk(R) Client Manager Software allows the system to be easily managed by IT staff.  Also, the Gateway Profile 5 can be easily transported between workstations, thanks to the built-in handle and low weight.

The Gateway Profile 5 continues to build on its ease-of-use features by keeping the floppy and optical drives (options include combo DVD-RW/CD-RW, combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW, or CD-ROM) accessible from the front of the computer. Also, conveniently located ports — including two IEEE 1394 (one 4-pin and one 6-pin), six USB 2.0 (four on the back and two on the side), and digital audio out — ensure that the Gateway Profile 5 provides ample support for a wide array of digital devices, such as flash memory, printers and digital cameras. The functionality of the new PC can be expanded via its slot for one Type II PC card with cardbus support.

The new PC comes in several configurations to meet a range of organizational needs.  The Gateway Profile 5 utilizes the Intel(R) 865G chipset and supports the option for either Intel Pentium 4 processors with Hyper Threading(R) technology(2) or Intel(R) Celeron(R) processors that support up to an 800MHz front side bus.  The PC also supports up to 1024MB of 400MHz DDR SDRAM, as well as 5400RPM or 7200RPM hard drives ranging in capacity from 40GB to 160GB(3).  The Gateway Profile 5 is available with either Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Pro or Microsoft Windows 2000.

Graphics and multimedia functionality is supported with NVIDIA FX 5200 Graphics with VGA Out for dual display requirements, or integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2 with 64MB memory, depending on configuration.  All Gateway Profile 5 configurations support a VGA-in port that allows users the ability to operate a second PC using the Gateway Profile 5 LCD. Also, the Gateway Profile 5 delivers rich sound with integrated stereo speakers, as well as front located headphone/microphone and speaker/headphone out, microphone-in and line-in jacks on the back of the computer.
