Logitech Updates io 2 Digital Pen

Logitech Updates io 2 Digital Pen

Logitech last week unveiled a new version of their io 2 Digital Pen. This newest version, which reportedly has improved handwriting recognition, will become available in May for $149.99.

The new Logitech io 2 Digital Pen, said Logitech, besides the improved handwriting recognition, also offers a new written shortcut for more efficiently transforming notes into a Microsoft Word document. The original premise behind this pen line is a technology called ioTags, which allows users to use written shortcuts to send portions of their handwritten notes directly into their e-mail or calendar applications. When the pen is docked, selected notes appear as both handwritten notes and automatically converted text within a split-screen interface. Users can click a single button to have that text inserted into the selected application, or they can first edit the text as they compare it on-screen with the handwritten notes.

Wacom Debuts New Digital Pens

Lenovo has partnered with Wacom to use its new Penabled technology with the ThinkPad X41, the first in their line of convertible Tablet PCs.  Penabled Pens are cordless, and battery free.

The ThinkPad may be used as a tablet with a digital pen, or as a traditional notebook PC.  In tablet form, digital ink is captured from the electronic pen on screen.  Designed to act like a real writing instrument, the pen provides 256 levels of pressure-sensitivity for accurate line work.  The pen also has an eraser which is just as sensitive.  The responsiveness lends itself to artists who like to sketch in natural, flowing lines.

Logitech’s New io2 Digital Writing System

The new pen will also be available as part of custom writing solutions for vertical market applications in areas such as healthcare, legal and sales.

The Logitech io2 Digital Writing System features a refined, slimmer digital pen design — thanks to the shrinking of internal technology — along with more paper options and enhanced handwriting recognition that is now part of the core offering.

Logitech IO Pen review

Quote from the review at HardExtreme.org:

” The Logitech IO Pen is great for office users as well as home users. The Logitech io is a sophisicated pen that is able to capture everything you write on anoto formatted notebook paper using it’s built in optical sensor. The pen is bigger than a normal pen but the brains have to go somewhere. The pen packs a processor among other things in the space that the pen takes up. “

Logitech io gets software upgrade

With Version 2.0 of the pen software, people can easily edit, search, organize, export and email handwritten notes that are captured digitally with the io pen.  They can also convert their handwritten notes into standard digital text, supported by most applications, using MyScript Notes® software from Vision Objects, available for a free 30-day trial, in conjunction with the new release of Logitech’s software.

The act of transforming what has been written on the page into digital content has proven to be a valuable tool that enables people to review, search and store notes on the computer.  A recent survey on note-taking, sponsored by Logitech, found that while 92 percent of note-takers are most comfortable with pen and paper, the majority of their important information at work is in an electronic format, residing on their PC.
