Soaring sales of digital cameras, MP3 players, CD/DVD players, digital TVs, personal video recorders and a slew of other digital devices highlight the pervasiveness of digital entertainment. Alienware Pushes Area-51 Systems To 4GHz

Alienware today announced the immediate availability of 4.0 GHz processors on Area-51 ALX Systems. Powered by performance-enhanced Intel Pentium 4 processors with Hyper Threading Technology, Alienware’s elite Area-51 ALX systems surpass previous barriers on speed.

Area-51 ALX systems are optimized to reach 4.0 GHz clock speeds that result in performance increases of approximately 10 percent over previous 3.6 GHz processors. With Alienware’s rigorous 200-point quality control inspection and extended burn-in process, Area-51 ALX systems deliver smooth and reliable performance even at turbo-charged processor speeds. Excess heat generated by elevated processor performance is controlled by Alienware’s exclusive ultra-quiet Liquid Cooling technology, which cools components with specially formulated liquid and gold-plated, pure copper coolers. Prices start at just over $4,000.

Intel Slashes Processor Prices

“Intel reduces prices on its processors from time to time in hopes of generating business or making way for new chips.

The steepest cuts, unveiled this weekend, came for the Santa Clara, Calif., company’s fastest Pentium 4 processors, in particular the 3.6GHz 560 model, which saw its price drop by 34.54 percent, from $637 to $417 per 1,000 units shipped.”

Intel Officially Releases Grantsdale

From Intel’s press release:

In one of the most significant PC platform changes in a decade, Intel Corporation today announced products that usher in a range of audio, video and other capabilities previously found only on specialty PCs. In addition to making the PC experience more entertaining and productive, these technologies pave the way for such emerging capabilities as High Definition (HD) video, 7.1 surround sound and robust file protection for office and home users.

These technologies are helping create a new kind of PC, an all-in-one “hi-fi” device with high-definition video, high-fidelity sound and wireless connectivity, according to Louis Burns, vice president and general manager, Intel Desktop Platforms Group.
