YouTube to launch Live Event Webcasting

Next month, video sharing site YouTube will be entering the live Webcasting business, staging live events that will feature both real-world celebrities as well as popular personalities from the site itself. Dubbed “YouTube Live,” the first show is scheduled to go off on November 22 in San Francisco, featuring singer Katy Perry, rapper Will.i.am, and a series of YouTube stars, including 20-year-old Dutch singer Esmee Denters, who has shot to popularity covering songs on YouTube.

SanDisk Launches $20 slotMusic Player

Last month, SanDisk announced slotMusic, a new initiative to distribute DRM-free major label music on 1 GB microSD cards. The idea is that folks can buy an album from their favorite artists on microSD media—and get album art and extras besides—and easily move the music to whatever media player or computer system they like.

Yesterday, SanDisk announced the first slotMusic cards are now shipping, including music from over 40 top mainstream artists ranging from Elvis Presley and Jimi Hendrix to Katy Perry and Usher. The disks should be available at Best Buy and Walmart for $14.99 each.

Preparing for the Apple iPhone 3G

The new Apple iPhone (expected to be here June 9th) addresses a number of shortcomings the 1st gen product had and will likely be much more popular as a result. It is expected to be less expensive, have much better wireless performance, and work much better with corporate email systems. I feel sorry for my IT friends who think they can keep this version off their networks because I’m afraid that won’t work this time.

Transmeta Corporation today introduced its Crusoe TM5700 and TM5900 microprocessors, creating a new standard in ultra-compact, efficient computing. The new processors feature an integratedNorthbridge and are available in a 21mm x 21mm package for increased design flexibility and to enable smaller form factors for x86-compatible, energy efficient mobile and embedded computing.

The small footprint of the Transmeta Crusoe TM5700/TM5900 processors make it ideal for applications that require high performance processing within small and thermally constrained environments, including thin clients, blade servers, printers, copiers, point-of-sale terminals, smart displays, portable consumer devices, ultra-personal computers (UPCs) and set-top boxes.

Transmeta’s ‘Astro’ slated for September

Transmeta Corporation  announced that its next generation TM8000 processor incorporates Low Pin Count (LPC) Flash technologies from Sharp Microelectronics and STMicroelectronics. Thesetechnologies bolster Transmeta’s goal of efficient computing by offering design flexibility, industry standard support and enhanced security.

LPC Flash allows for fewer signals and support components while enhancing design simplicity. Sharp, STMicroelectronics and Transmeta are combining the benefits of proven reliability with energyefficiency and competitive cost in new, 16-megabit density LPC technology products.
