It was shaping up to be one of the biggest intellectual property feuds of 2007—and a distinctly black mark on the face of Apple’s much-anticipated entry into the mobile phone market—but now it looks like the whole thing might just blow over. Apple and Cisco have agreed to suspend their legal dispute over the use of the iPhone name in hopes of working out an agreement.

Letter Campaign Targets Wireless Service
Nearly 8,000 letters from consumers fed up with poor cell phone service were delivered this week to wireless companies by Consumers Union’s EscapeCellHell.org campaign demanding better contract terms, details about where phones work and an end to the practice of “locking down†useable phones sothey won’t operate on other compatible networks.
“In just one month we had an overwhelming response to our Web-based campaign, an indication of just how frustrated consumers are with their cell phone companies,†said Janee Briesemeister, director of www.EscapeCellHell.org, who organized the letter-writing effort.
