Samsung Develops 80-inch LCD TV

This full HD image quality TFT-LCD panel was developed at the company’s new production complex in Tangjeong, Korea. The soon-to-be operational 7th-generation production facility uses glass substratesthat measure 1.87m x 2.20m.

Samsung has made a series of breakthroughs in TFT-LCD technology ahead of the competition over the years. The company developed the first 40-inch model in August 2001, the first 46-inch panel in October 2002, the first 57-inch model in December 2003 and now the first 82-inch panel.

Hitachi Increasing Shares in FHP

The move, aimed at strengthening Hitachi’s position in the plasma display panel (PDP) business, also involves the transfer to Hitachi of Fujitsu’s PDP technology patents at the end of March 2005.Once Hitachi and Fujitsu have provided financial assistance for eliminating FHP’s excessive debt by the end of March, the transfer of stock is to move forward quickly from April and, by adding 30.1%of FHP’s issued shares to Hitachi’s holdings, will make FHP a consolidated subsidiary of Hitachi.

Samsung Develops 102-inch Plasma Display

“Samsung SDI Co. Ltd., a display manufacturing company of the Samsung group, has developed a 102-in. plasma display panel, eclipsing an 80-in. panel the company announced in January.

The 102-in. panel features resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, a brightness of 1,000 candelas, and a contrast of 2,000 to 1.”

Samsung Develops 35cm-Deep CRT

“The new CRT makes it possible to build a CRT TV only 38cm deep (see Fig). The 32-inch CRT TVs available on the market today are normally 50 to 60cm deep. While this new CRT would still be significantly thicker than the 10cm or so of plasma display panel (PDP) and LCD TVs, it would be on a par with the 40cm depth of most rear-projection units using digital micromirror devices (DMD) or similar technologies.

Motorola Tunes In To Flat-Panel TVs

The first flat-panel televisions to bear the Motorola brand name should be available in the U.S. and Asian markets within the next few months, the Taiwanese company making the products said Tuesdayat the Computex trade show in Taipei.
 
Moxell Technology plans to begin selling PDP (plasma display panel) televisions under the Motorola brand in China from this month and a range of LCD televisions bearing the name in the U.S. marketfrom August, says Wynn Yiu, executive vice president of the Taipei-based company, which is a subsidiary of Hong Kong’s Proview International Holdings.
