Plextor PX-712SA Review

Summary

The Plextor PX-712SA is a highly versatile DVD/CD burner specifically designed to deliver high-quality recording performance. All Plextor DVD/CD drives are designed for easy installation with Microsoft® Windows®-based personal computer systems and Apple Computer’s Power Macintosh desktop line. The PX-712SA features a Serial ATA interface, support for horizontal or vertical drive bay orientation, and Plug & Play compatibility with Microsoft Windows® 2000/XP operating systems. The PX-712SA has an 8 MB buffer and features Buffer Underrun Proof Technology to prevent buffer underrun errors and allow multi-tasking. Lossless Linking/Zero Link technology enables users to perform basic editing tasks directly on the DVD disc, so there is no need to reload DVD content back to a PC to make minor changes, and no need to re-burn an entire DVD after making small edits.

Speed Up Your Plextor Drive With Update

The firmware upgrade will be available in two releases. Release 1.04 is available today on Plextor’s website http://www.plextor.com. This firmware supports 2X DVD-R DL and 6X DVD+R DL on 8.5 GB DVD DL media, along with 8X DVD+RW and 16X DVD+/-R on recommended single-layer DVD media with Plextor’s AUTOSTRATEGY(R) recording optimization feature. Release 1.05, available March 31, 2005, supports 6X DVD-R on DL DVD media.

“This firmware upgrade demonstrates Plextor’s unwavering commitment to protecting the investments of our customers,” said Howard Wing, vice president of sales and marketing for Plextor. “Customers now can upgrade their PX-716 Series drive and enjoy the greater productivity that comes with faster recording speeds.”

Plextor Introduces 16X SATA DVD Writer

The drive achieves blazing fast 16X CAV performance on recommended 8X DVD+R media, and burns a 4.7GB DVD in less than six minutes, one minute faster than leading ZCLV competitors. The new drive also supports dual-layer DVD media, enabling users to burn up to four hours of high-quality MPEG-2 video on a single 8.5GB DVD disc in approximately 28 minutes.

The internal PX-716SA drive features an integrated Serial ATA connection, enabling OEMs and System Integrators to leverage the benefits of SATA, including 150 MB/sec bandwidth, elimination of master/slave configuration jumper issues, a substantial pin count reduction, and thinner cables to help air-flow and improve cable routing.

Plextor PX-708A DVD Writer Review

Quote from the review at Voided Warranty:

“The Plextor PX-708A offers multiformat support and is marketed as one of the first drives to burn DVD+R at 8X, burning over 4gb of data in just over 8 minutes. Its other recording capabilities include DVD+RW at 4X, DVD-R at 4X, DVD-RW at 2X, CD-R at 40X and CD-RW at 24X. This review is more or less a freebie for Plextor because they can’t afford to give away this drive for the review. Instead they offered this drive at a discounted price. Which I have no idea what that discount will be. With that fact known, this review will not be affected by their marketing practice. But it will affect my decision on choosing which manufacturer to purchase optical products from, it won’t be Plextor.”

Plextor PX-712SA DVD Write Review

Quote from the review at T-Break:

“Plextor has been around pretty much since CDs were first introduced to the world. In 1998 Plextor began producing CD-R/RW drives which proved to be very popular. In 2003, the increasing demand for DVD writers caused Plextor to introduce DVD+R/RW drives to the ever expanding market. Today they provide a large variety of top range products, but their main focus is still on DVD and CD RW drives”
