Creative Chases Bovine Bliss with Zen Moo

Creative Chases Bovine Bliss with Zen Moo

Having looked to nature for inspiration with its well-received Zen Stone MP3 player, Creative has moved on to more questionable agricultural styling cues with its latest player, the Zen Moo. Introduced in China on Friday, the Moo features the likeness of – you guess it – a cow.

Much like the Stone, the Moo comes in both Moo and Moo Plus variants, with the Plus picking up an OLED display, built-in speaker, FM receiver, and voice recorder. Both players come in white, pink, red and yellow, and sport capacities of 2GB. According to iMP3.net, the Plus models are even controlled with the nubs on the cow’s horns.

Apple Launches DRM-Free iTunes Plus

Apple today launched iTunes Plus, a new addition to its existing iTunes service which offers AAC music tracks from major label EMI at 256 Kbps encoding (twice the rate of standard iTunes purchases) at $1.29 per track—and without Apple’s FairPlay digital rights management (DRM) technology. That means users can play iTunes Plus tracks on any music player (or using any application) which supports AAC encoding, rather than the tracks being restricted to playback using iTunes or Apple iPods.

“This is a tremendous milestone for digital music,” said Eric Nicoli, CEO of EMI Group. “Consumers are going to love listening to higher quality iTunes Plus tracks from their favorite EMI artists with no usage restrictions.”

CES 2006 Profile: Pepper Computer

Pepper Computer, developers of the Pepper Pad Internet appliance, launched an updated version of their handheld media computer at CES 2006 earlier this month in Las Vegas. The new Pepper Pad Plus should be available in the second quarter.

The Pepper Pad Plus builds upon the older Pepper Pad design by offering new hardware features such as a battery with reportedly more than 60 percent greater capacity, Wi-Fi 802.11g wireless connectivity, a 30GB hard drive and Bluetooth 2.0 support. Software upgrades include VoIP support, compatibility with Windows Media 9 Series audio and video files and support for streaming audio and video from UPnP devices.

Doss Launches $199 Home Theater System

From the press release:

China-based Doss designs and manufactures speakers, speaker systems and home-theater-in-a-box systems for sale under its own brand name, and custom builds products within very short R&D cycles for its many OEM customers around the world. The company operates in the United States as Aspire Digital.

The AD-1200J PLUS boasts a unique slant-top vertical black on silver design, making it a showy addition to anyone’s home.

The system includes a high-performance surround sound speaker set with a powered subwoofer, two front and two rear tower speakers, and a center speaker. Each tower speaker is capable of handling 25 watts RMS per channel (impedance: 8 ohms, speaker frequency response: 200 Hz – 20 kHz) for clean, powerful sound quality.

Philips adds Pixel Plus to Flat TV lineup

The result is amazingly sharp pictures with clear and natural detail for all types of input, from normal TV images and VCRs to DVD. With this technology, Philips has set the new industry-referencepicture quality standard. Philips’ excellence in picture quality was rewarded by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) by winning the prestigious “European TV of the year award 2002-2003″for its TVs with Pixel Plus technology.

Philips is now also including this technology in its Flat TV range, starting with the 32 inch, 42 inch and 50 inch models. Pixel Plus technology has already been introduced in Philips’ top-of-the-line Widescreen Matchline Series, the 28, 32 and 36 inch models, as the effects of Pixel Plus are most visible on wider screens. Thanks to the wide range of models in which Pixel Plus is now available and Philips’ broad distribution coverage, sets with Pixel Plus technology are now available in 98% of the consumer electronics outlets in Europe.
