Digi Offers to Bridge Cellular and Wi-Fi

Minnesota’s Digi International has introduced its Wi-Point 3G, a three-in-one network router that combined Wi-Fi and Ethernet capabilities with a PC card-based, 3G cellular router. With the Wi-Point 3G, users can set up secure, high-speed ad-hoc networks with Internet access from a wide range of locations.

“The Digi Wi-Point 3G allows remote sites and devices to wirelessly connect to the Internet or securely integrate into a corporate network—even if that remote device happens to be driving down the highway,” said Digi’s senior VP of global sales and marketing Larry Kraft, in a statement. “It is ideal for applications such as temporary networks, remote Wi-Fi hotspots, mobile/transportation deployments, disaster recovery, security and more.”

D-Link AirPremier DWL-2210AP Router

With the D-Link AirPremier Access Point, small and medium-sized businesses with limited budgets and minimal I.T. expertise can easily deploy and oversee self-managing wireless LANs with no additional administrative expenses and without sacrificing advanced features such as security, load balancing, virtual LAN’s, Quality of Service (QoS), and Wireless Distribution System (WDS). The D-Link DWL-2210AP access point offers true plug-and-play setup and speeds deployment or maintenance by detecting an existing cluster, automatically receiving configuration information, selecting an optimal channel, and serving wireless users within seconds of being out of the box. The clustering capability enables automated self-configuring of new access points joining the network, so it’s extremely easy to install, manage or replace an AP in a cluster with a new AP that will be automatically configured. The adaptive intelligence features of the DWL-2210AP also enable self-monitoring and self-healing of the network by enabling wireless users to reconnect to the network through any clustered access point.

Netgear WG302 ProSafe 802.11g access point

Netgear announced the launch of the WG302 ProSafe 802.11g Wireless Access Point, a value-priced enterprise-class access pointoffering advanced security and management features along with high-performance speeds and range designed to meet the demanding requirements of small- to medium-sized businesses (SMB) and hot spotdeployments. The IEEE 802.11g-compliant access point supports both 802.11b and 802.11g client devices, making it easy to migrate to the next generation of high performance wireless networkingtechnology while maximizing the current investment in existing 802.11b products.

Based on the Intel® Xscaleâ„¢ 422 processor, the versatile WG302 simultaneously supports an optional “SuperGâ„¢” static 108Mbps mode which provides extended data throughput speeds at longer ranges than possible with other Wi-Fi networking technologies in addition to the 54Mbps speeds of the 802.11g standard. A robust security feature set includes 40/64-, 128- and 152-bit WEP data encryption, MAC address authentication with 256-user access control list, and VPN pass-through support. For enhanced, interoperable wireless network security, IEEE 802.1x user-based authentication and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and dynamic 108Mbps mode will be available early 2004 via a free firmware upgrade.

Chris Deering talks PSP and PSX – again

Although less enlightening than Deering’s fascinating keynote at the ELSPA Games Summit in London last month, this interview did include a few interesting morsels of information – most notably a comment on the price point which the PSP will launch at.

According to Deering, “it will certainly be less than portable DVD players and likely more comparable to Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance” – suggesting a price point in the

Linksys ships new wireless A+G products

Linksys announced the shipment of its wireless A+G router and access point: Wireless Dual Band A+G Wireless Router (WRT55AG) and A+G Access Point (WAP55AG). These universal dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5.0GHz) multi-mode products for small business and consumers support existing and emerging IEEE wireless standards, including 802.11b, 802.11a, and the 802.11g draft specification. With the Router andAccess Point, Linksys is now shipping a complete line of Wireless A+ G products including its Wireless A+G PC Card and PCI Adapter announced last month.

The Wireless A+G Router and Access point perform at speeds up to 54mbps and can simultaneously support all IEEE approved standard 802.11 modes. This means that no matter what type of 802.11 wireless adapter is being used (in a notebook, desktop, PDA etc.) the access point or router will talk to it. Confusion is eliminated so the customer experience is enhanced.
