In a trial move, over 200 of GM’s California vehicle dealerships are preparing to test-launch branded eBay marketplaces aimed at selling Buick, Pontiac, Chevy, and GMC vehicles via the Web via auction site eBay. The offers will be available through special branded domains—like gm.ebay.com, chevy.ebay.com, gmc.ebay.com, pontaic.ebay.com, buick.ebay.com, etc.—as well as through eBay’s existing eBay Motors site and general search listings. The idea—described as a "first-of-its-kind promotion" enables users to purchase new vehicles through participating California GM dealers; the trial will run from August 11 through September 8, 2009.

Dell Debuts Inspiron 1525 in Australia
Not only does Australia already beat the United States to the punch with cars like the Holden Monaro (which arrived stateside years later as the Pontiac GTO), it looks as if they’re beginning to edge Americans out electronics as well. Dell’s upcoming Inspiron 1525 notebook, still without a firm release date in the U.S., has cropped up on the Australian branch of the company’s site for pre-order.
As expected, the Inspiron 1525 will share many features with its older sibling, the Inspiron 1520, including a 15.4-inch LCD, 160GB hard drive, and Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics. The most notable upgrade: a snappier Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 processor, which operates at 2.0GHz with a 800Mhz front-side bus.
Halo 3 Hits 1 Million Preorders
It’s hard to measure the buzz around new games, but if there’s one guaranteed indicator, it’s the number of customers willing to lay down cold hard cash for the game before it even comes out. By that measure, Halo 3 has reached new heights, with a confirmed 1 million preorders in North America alone.
Microsoft announced the numbers Thursday, also claiming that retailers are calling Halo 3 the fastest selling preordered game ever. The game comes in a standard edition for $59.99, limited edition for $69.99 and legendary edition for $129.99. Sales of the most expensive edition have been so strong that Microsoft predicts they will be gone long before the game reaches shelves.
GM Adds Auxilary Input To Car Radios
From the press release:
Music lovers will find it easier to take their favorite tunes on the road thanks to a new family of radios that will debut on the Chevy HHR and other GM vehicles starting later this year.
The new radios include an auxiliary channel and front mounted auxiliary input jack, so that an iPod or other audio source can be easily plugged in and played through the vehicle audio system.
GM to offer Panasonic DVD players
The Panasonic systems, including a new sunroof-compatible model, were chosen by GM for their performance, flexible design, innovative features and ease of operation.
Panasonic DVD passenger entertainment systems were introduced in GM’s 2003 model-year full-size SUVs, full-size pickups, and crossover vehicles. This year, for the company’s 2004 model-year vehicles, the Panasonic system option has been expanded to mid-size SUVs, as well as the all-new Cadillac SRX.
What is missing from the system is DVD-Audio and surround sound processing functionality. DVD-Video has been an impressive automotive entertainment trend designed to be a virtual babysitter forsoccer moms. Many record executives feel that the car audio environment is going to be the last and most important battleground in the SACD/DVD-Audio format war.
