HP Debuts Eco-Friendly Desktops

HP has taken the wraps off two new desktop PCs the company is touting as not only up to 45 percent more efficient than equivalent PCs without power management technology, but they also ship in recyclable packaging that’s easier on the environment.

“The Phoenix and Verde desktops represent HP’s ongoing efforts to innovate and design for the environment,” said HP’s VP of marketing for worldwide consumer PCs John Cook, in a statement. “HP is committed to offering consumers and businesses computing alternatives that can reduce energy consumption and lessen their overall eco-footprint.”

In addition to offering best-in-class performance, this full-featured mobile processor also offers Enhanced Virus Protection (EVP) designed to prevent the spread of certain malicious viruses whenenabled by Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 .

Averatec Debuts 6200 Series Notebook

This unique design allows users to watch DVD movies or listen to audio CDs and MP3 files without the need to start-up the notebook’s operating system. Meanwhile, this unique machine providescomprehensive features and superior technology aimed at serving the needs of on-the-go users.

These notebooks are equipped with a Mobile AMD Athlon(TM) XP-M processor 2400+ with AMD PowerNow!(TM) technology. The sleek and stylish 6200 series features a 15.4-inch wide-screen XGA TFT display with 1280 x 800 resolution, as well as a built-in DVD+CD-RW combination drive. A dedicated audio/video wireless remote control is also included with the notebook, which is conveniently stored in the PCMCIA slot and allows on-demand control of the DVD player. In DVD player mode, with the use of a smart Li-Ion battery, users are able to view up to three 90- minute movies consecutively on a single battery charge.

Transmeta to launch new Efficeon processor

The new Efficeon is being heralded as the best chance the small chip company has to compete against rival Intel Corp. 

“It’s the second most important day in the company’s history,” since Transmeta first launched its Crusoe chip in 2000, said Brian Alger, an analyst at Pacific Growth Equities.

Santa Clara, California-based Transmeta ran into production problems with Crusoe and failed to gain the support of major PC manufacturers.

But, Hewlett-Packard Co.  is expressing support for the Efficeon, while Nvidia Corp. has said it will develop a multimedia processor for Transmeta’s chips, including Efficeon.
