Czechs Move To Stop Cyberbullying

Czechs Move To Stop Cyberbullying

After some Czech pupils attempted to blackmail teachers by posting video clips of them online, the Czech education ministry is trying to stop cyberbullying by laying down new guidelines for schools.

Cyberbullying is done via text, e-mail, or online, and generally involves one pupil bullying another outside school. This attempted blackmail of teachers is a different track, however.

Ministry spokesman Tomas Bouska told the BBC that under the new guidelines schools would be able to do more than simply confiscate mobile phones or banning them during class. Instead, teachers can move offending pupils to another class or invite the parents in to talk. Repeate offenders can receive a police caution.

Xbox 360 Warranty Extended to Three Years

Xbox 360 Warranty Extended to Three Years

When Microsoft launched the Xbox 360 back in late 2005, the console was greeted by both rapt enthusiasm from the gaming community, but also a chorus of peristent complaints the video game consoles were prone to failure. In response, in December of 2006 Microsoft extended the warranty on Xbox 360 consoles from 90 days to one year; now, the "unacceptable number of repairs" to Xbox 360 consoles has caused Microsoft to extend the Xbox 360 warranty to three years—and take a hefty blow to its corporate wallet as a result.

Silverbrook Showing Ultra-Fast Inkjets

Silverbrook Showing Ultra-Fast Inkjets

At an international conference in Prague, Australia’s Silverbrook Research announced a new inkjet printing technology which promised to be five to ten times faster than inkjet printers on the market today, yet still offer cost-effective printing solutions.

Silverbrook’s Memjet technology packs an astonishing number of ink nozzles into its print heads: each driver chip is just 2 cm across yet contains 6,400 ink nozzles, and Silverbrook has aligned these in series to create a single print head the width of an entire page. Unlike conventional inkjet printers—which move a printhead back and forth across a page on a control bar—the Memjet print head doesn’t move: instead, it sprays ink as paper moves continuously under the printhead. The Memjet print heads offer five color channels, and the printing system calculates some 900 million drops per second while controlling the firing of all the ink nozzles.

Sony Camcorder Records in 5.1 Sound

Dolby Digital 5.1 Creator is a sophisticated audio coding technology that formats audio content into a multichannel Dolby Digital bitstream, allowing consumers to create home movies with rich, full, surround sound that captures the entire setting. As a result of its superior coding efficiencies, 5.1-channel Dolby Digital requires less data than stereo PCM, resulting in savings in disc space and allowing consumers to make longer recordings or store higher-quality video content by assigning a higher data rate to video.
