Qwest Intros 20 Mbps DSL

Qwest Intros 20 Mbps DSL

Regional telecommunications operator Qwest announced today that it is introducing 12 and 20 Mbps DSL service in 23 of its top markets, Dubbed Qwest Titanium and Qwest Quantum, respectively, the company expects the services to be available to over 2 million customers by the end of 2008.

The 20 Mbps service is currently the fastest DSL service available from a major U.S. telephone operator.

Qwest Rolls Out VoIP Plan

“Qwest quietly rolled out their ‘OneFlex’ voice-over-IP service last night, offering a basic plan of $30 a month and cheap US long distance that caps out at an additional $20 a month. That means $50for all-you-can eat long distance, which isn’t exactly the cheapest thing in the world, but is pretty reasonable if you’re looking to completely replace your land line service (as opposed tocomplementing it with Skype or the like).

I didn’t see an option that gives you a discount if you bundle your DSL service with Qwest as well, which they really should offer. VOIP, if you already have internet service, should be a token charge on top of your broadband bill. Think how much bigger JULIA’s smile would be.”

MCI Accepts Verizon Offer

“MCI said it accepted Verizon’s lower price because its large business customers had threatened to defect if it was sold to Qwest. Qwest did not go quietly, accusing MCI of tilting the bidding war inVerizon’s favor and shortchanging shareholders.

“It is no longer in the best interests of shareowners, customers and employees to continue in a process that seems to be permanently skewed against Qwest,” the company said in a statement.”
