To that end, the company has just announced its Blackbird 002 alpha desktop gaming system, now featuring a new 45nm Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 quad-core processor. The QX9650 uses Intel’s Hi-K hafnium-based metal gate in its transistosrs, boosting performance and lowering power consumption compared to its Core 2 predecessors.

Voodoo Rolls Out Envy M:152 Gaming Notebook
Not much has been heard from formerly-boutique PC maker Voodoo PC since its acquisition last year by leading computer maker Hewlett-Packard, but today HP announced a new gaming notebook sure to get some hearts thumping and fingers twitching: the VoodooPC Envy M:152. The M:152 packs a 1,680 by 1,050-pixel 15.4-inch display, and Nvidia GeForce 8600GT 512 MB graphics controller, and a a Core 2 Extreme X7800 processor at speeds up to 2.4 GHz—all in a package weighing less than 7 pounds.
VoodooPC Introduces New Gaming Notebook
Days after Intel announced that its Extreme line of processors would be coming to notebooks, VoodooPC appears to be the first to roll out a new laptop with one of Intel’s high-end processors under the hood. The Envy H:171 packs Intel’s Core 2 Extreme X6800 processor along with a 17-inch screen and scores of other performance features aimed at satisfying gamers.
Voodoo Takes Omen to Extreme Quad Core
Boutique computer maker VoodooPC—newly acquired by Hewlett-Packard—has announced a new version of its high-performance Omen desktop systems featuring Intel’s Core 2 Duo Extreme Quad Core processor. Set to launch on November 14, Voodoo is promising the new systems will deliver up to 70 percent better performance on industry benchmarks than Intel’s dual core processors.
“The cutting edge technology in the new quad-core allows users to manage simultaneous tasks faster and smoother, enabling them to run multiple tasks without slowdowns to applications,” said Rahul Sood, now chief technologist of HP’s global gaming PC business unit, in a statement. “This, combined with the ability to run highly threaded applications, puts our Extreme Quad-Core on the cutting edge of technology.”
HP Gets its Game On with VoodooPC
Hewlett-Packard announced yesterday that it plans to acquire boutique computer maker VoodooPC; financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. VoodooPC is well-regarded for its high-performance and spendy desktop and notebook systems catering to the gamer, multimedia, and PC enthusiast crowds, often featuring stylish and outlandish design elements.
The move is another demonstration of the strength of the high-end gaming market, as major manufacturers look to cash in on hardcore gamers and others willing to shell out for top-notch, high performance systems offering the latest and greatest in entertainment value. Earlier this year, Dell purchased Alienware, a major VoodooPC rival, for an undisclosed amount.
