Making a pitch to athletic iPod Shuffle users sick of fighting with tangled headphone cables, RCA on Friday released its new S2501 Jet Stream portable media player. The smallish PMP discards both wires and Bluetooth for proprietary Kleer wireless audio transmission technology, which RCA claims offers better battery life and audio quality.
The thin, 3.63-inch tall player offers a 1-inch color LCD for browsing music, viewing photos and playing video, a splash-proof body with a clip, and 1GB of flash memory. It also has a variety of exercise-centric software features built in, like an integrated stop watch, pedometer, calorie counter and body mass index calculator.
Plays the radio for up to 2 hours before automatically turning off the radio, allowing the user to gently fall asleep to music;
Allows the user to set a quick alarm for a short interval of sleep without disturbing the alarm settings. Set for 10-minute increments up to a total of 2 hours of naptime;
This unit has a top load CD door system for easy access;
This feature gives the user the choice of waking up to the alarm, a favorite radio station, or any track of a favorite CD.

RCA is hoping to ignite some competition in what’s euphemistically called the “value segment” of the personal digital media player market with the launch of its Gem line of digital media players. The players aim to offer features most consumers want at prices which won’t strain their budgets: audio, video, and photo playback; expandable memory; USB mass storage; and rugged cases which can handle being tossed in a bag or put through their paces at the gym.
RCA might be an electronics name from your parents’ generation (or your parents’ parents’ generation) but the firm still wants to appeal to today’s music fans

If TVs get any larger, I may have to get a new house. It isn’t that the RCA Scenium HD61LPW175 DLP TV had any problem slipping through the front door for this review. After the delivery guys undressed it on my front deck, it was smooth sailing carrying the 18-inch deep TV through the door frame. And at about 90 pounds it was a fairly pain-free setup for them (easy for me to say) compared with the girth of a big-screen CRT.
