Dell and Microsoft See (RED)
It seems that Apple and Motorola aren’t the only tech giants willing to jump on the PRODUCT (RED) bandwagon: Microsoft and Dell are reportedly planning to introduce a series of PRODUCT (RED) offerings at the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland next week. While Microsoft itself is being coy on the matter—confirming only that “products” are on the way—sources have Microsoft and Dell teaming up to offer both desktop and laptop computers under the PRODUCT (RED) banner, with portions of each sale going to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa.
Sin City Game to Use Unreal Engine 3
Red Mile Entertainment has been flying low under radar since it first announced development of a Sin City game back in May, but fans eager for information on the game got a fresh dose of info on Thursday: It will use the Unreal Engine 3.
Epic Games’ engine-for-hire is the same core technology behind games like Gears of War, Unreal Tournament, and BioShock. It includes a suite of content creation tools, along with support for features like ragdoll physics, advanced gameplay scripting, and massive world support.
V-Moda Sees (But Doesn’t Go) Red
High-end lifestyle brand V-Moda has unveiled two nww colors of its popular all-metal Vibe high-fashion earbud headphones, dubbed Red Roxx and La Mocha. The Vibe headphones are aimed at fashion-forward music enthusiasts, offering high sound quality with noise isolating features and a look at the company loves to boast is “on par with high fashion jewelry.” The new red and brown colorations are designed to complement Apple’s (PRODUCT) RED iPod nano, while the La Mocha edition is apparently aimed at Microsoft’s brown Zune music player.
iPod nano Sees (RED)
Today Apple Computer officially rolled out its iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition. The new iPod nano is part of the (RED) campaign created by Bobby Shriver and U2 frontman Bono to get companies to create unique products which contribute a portion of their profits to the Global Fund to support programs for children and women affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa. As part of the campaign, $10 from every (RED) nano sold will be donated to the Global Fund. Apple also plans to offer a $25 iTunes (RED) Gift Card at Apple Retail Stores beginning in November.
El Matador Shoots Up the PC
2WG Media, a subsidiary of Red Mile Entertainment, has shipped its new PC action game El Matador to North American retailers.
El Matador places players in the role of a DEA agent Victor Corbet, who’s knee-deep in a South American drug war and charged with the task of taking down drug barons and their cartels. Developed by Plastic Realities, the game features a “movie-like” plot, AI-driven teammates, an enormous arsenal of weapons, and interactive environment with destructible objects, and real physics simulations with ragdoll effects.

Phone maker Motorola has launched a new red edition of its SLVR phone for the U.K. market, tied directly to U2 frontman Bono’s Product Red campaign to combat the AIDS epidemic in Africa.

Red Hat Commits to $100 Laptop Project
Red Hat announced on Tuesday, January 31st that it would be joining to OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) initiative as a corporate partner. Red Hat plans on donating an undisclosed sum of money toward theproject. Red Hat looks forward to contributing more to the purpose, but won’t necessarily be providing the operating system for the $100-laptops developed by MIT. The laptops are designed to helpschoolchildren in developing countries where internet and computers are not directly available.
