Sprint Adds Picture Messaging Service

From Sprint’s press release:

Sprint and LightSurf Technologies, a leading provider of open-standards technology and services for multimedia messaging, today announced the launch of North America’s first inter-operator picture messaging service for camera-phone users. The two companies, together with Bell Mobility, are leading the way in bringing seamless picture sharing to North American camera phone users.

“This announcement marks a turning point in the wireless industry, as inter-operator picture sharing will trigger rapid and wide-scale multimedia messaging adoption across North America,” said Andy Seybold, founder of Outlook 4Mobility. “LightSurf’s solution enables this innovation by providing operators a simple and reliable system to share pictures between networks.”

Canon Debuts New ZR Series Camcorder

In stores beginning in March for estimated selling prices of $399, $499 and $599, Canon’s ZR80, ZR85 and ZR90 models pack advanced features into a sleek, compact design that allows consumers tocapture and print memorable milestones and everyday events with ease.

“Consumers want to use video as often as they do digital still photography, but have waited for the price-to-benefit offerings to become greater,” Yukiaki Hashimoto, senior vice president and general manager of the consumer imaging group at Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE:CAJ). “Canon’s new ZR line of Mini DV camcorders break new ground in the marketplace by affordably placing much-asked-for feature-sets, user-friendly product design and Canon image quality into the hands of more people than ever before.”

Camera phones rival DVD players sales

Introduced three years ago in Japan and less than a year ago in the USA, they’ve caught on so fast that Nokia and other phonemakers say most new phones from now on will have built-in cameras.

”They’re becoming a standard feature,” says Nokia spokesman Keith Nowak at the Comdex technology show here. Nokia, the No. 1 cellphone maker, introduced six models in the past two months. All include cameras.
