Ricoh CX1 Shoots HDR Images Automatically

Ricoh CX1 Shoots HDR Images Automatically

Shooting high dynamic range photos is no longer just for those with DSLR cameras and lots of patience with Photoshop anymore. On Thursday, Ricoh announced its new CX1 point-and-shoot, which can actually processor HDR shots right in the camera.

HDR imaging uses multiple shots of the same scene, with different exposures, to capture all of the detail seen by the naked eye, when a traditional camera sensor cannot. For instance, taking a photo indoors with a window in the background usually results in a near pitch-black view of the room, and a clear view out the window, or a well-lit room and a window that looks like pure white. HDR combines the most detailed images from both photos to produce a better representation of what the room actually looks like to someone in it: a clear view out the window and of the room.

Logitech Z-5 Speakers Lack Direction

Logitech Z-5 Speakers Lack Direction

Ordinary PC speakers work great in situations where you can jam a computer in the corner and only worry about sound travelling in one direction, but if your room setup is a little more complicated, that might leave one side of the room woefully quiet. Logitech set out to fix this problem by creating a pair that throw sound equally in all directions: its new Z-5 desktop speakers, introduced on Tuesday.

YouTube Embraces Indie Film

YouTube Embraces Indie Film

As video sharing site YouTube gets closer and closer to consumers’ living room television, it’s no surprise the service is trying to come up with ways to offer higher quality content than, say, teenagers doing karaoke via a Web cam or eight years-olds staging sock puppet plays. To that end, YouTube has announced Screening Room, a dedicated area of the YouTube site featuring high-quality shorts from independent filmmakers.

Meridian F80 Puts a Ferrari On The Table

Back in The Olde Days, the “wireless” used to be the focus of a living room: families would huddle around the radio set to hear news bulletins, serial drama like The Lone Ranger and The Shadow, and tap into the latest dance tunes. (You know, from that hep cat Glenn Miller.)

Sony Ships Vaio TP1 Living Room PC

Sony Ships Vaio TP1 Living Room PC

Sony Electronics has begun selling its Vaio TP1 Living Room PC. Unveiled last January at CES, the TP1 sports a while cylindrical design that might look at bit like one of those round covers you put over your plate to keep your food warm…or perhaps a storage container for a few of your favorite Frisbees. But under the cylindrical hood lies a 1.83 Ghz Core 2 Duo processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 300 GB 7,200 RPM hard drive, HDMI, 802.11g Wi-Fi, and Windows Visa Home Premium, all waiting to act as your mid-range living room media center and a gateway to the wild world of Internet video. And users can control it from across the room using a remote control and wireless keyboard.

Coming Soon to Apple TV: YouTube

Coming Soon to Apple TV: YouTube

Apple has announced that owners of its Apple TV will be able to stream videos from the online video sharing site YouTube beginning in mid-June. Initially introduced as a way to easily move videos from a personal computer to the living room for viewing on a big screen (or via a home theater setup) via Apple’s iTunes application, the YouTube connection marks the Apple TV’s first departure from the iTunes ecosystem—and may foreshadow Apple’s willingness to let the Apple TV tap into the rapidly growing world of online video.

Apple has begun shipping its slightly-delayed Apple TV to customers, marking the Cupertino computer- and electronics-maker’s first serious foray into the living room. In a nutshell, the Apple TV is designed to bridge the gap between Apple’s iTunes store and the living room television, enabling users to view videos, television episodes, and movies purchased from the iTunes store on their in-home big screens.

Toshiba’s Well-Armed TDP-SC35U Projector

Such is the case withToshba’s new TDP-SC35U conference room projector, which features an extensible arm with a detachable camera so that, in addition to traditional slides and presentation material from a video source like a laptop, presenters can swing out the arm and incorporate photo samples, images of documents, and even images of a 3D object.
