Game Boy Advance Ship 10 Million In UK
The success of the handheld console continues apace this Christmas, with the GBA occupying a comfortable second place behind the PS2 in terms of unit sales in the UK, and showing no sign of the year-on-year sales decline which has afflicted most other consoles.
Nintendo is keen to promote the system as an ideal Christmas gift, and expects to bring the total catalogue of software available for the GBA to over 400 titles within the coming weeks. Disney Interactive’s Finding Nemo is the largest selling GBA title so far this Christmas, followed closely by Nintendo’s own Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire titles.

Since its inception in 1989, Nintendo’s Game Boy® line has become a household name as the world’s most successful and storied video game system, selling through more than 150 million units and more than one-half billion games worldwide.
Nintendo cracks down on importers
The legal orders refer to sales of any items which have not been published by Nintendo in Europe – be that software or hardware – and follow on from a number of previous actions by Nintendo in the past, including the suing of CEX Games for carrying imported Nintendo products.
Only last month, the company brought legal pressure to bear on small UK-based importer TQ Games, forcing the shut-down of the operation. Neither Sony nor Microsoft has ever taken this kind of action against importers, and both companies have expressed, privately at least, that they have no plans ever to do so.

GBA reaches 365k in first month sales
The company plans to ship 2 million GBA SP units worldwide by the time the system has launched in all global territories at the end of this month. According to Japanese magazine publisher Enterbrain, demand for the SP remains high in Japan, and the system could have sold even more units had stock been available.
Nintendo is being careful not to reduce the number of units available for its US and European launches – which are both happening in the next eight days – by attempting to meet the huge demand in Japan, however, and has stated that although it will attempt to restock Japan as regularly as possible, it is focusing on preparations for the overseas launches at the moment.
