Even the most Internet-savvy shoppers need to venture to retail stores once in a while. Apple Opens Used Store In China
Apple opened its first Apple store in Beijing last year, just before the Olympics. But it doesn’t have much of as presence in the country. In an attempt to become more visible in China, it’s offering refurbished versions of its items for sale at discounts of up to 22%, according to Reuters.
As in other countries, the goods are offered for sale online. Typically, a third-generation 8GB iPod Nano will sell for $147, an iPod Shuffle for $44, and a refurbished 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo iMac goes for $1,376.
Those prices are higher than for similar goods in the US, but Apple typically charges more overseas.
Apple Sells Unlocked iPhones In Hong Kong
After making a big splash about exclusive arrangements with mobile carriers in different countries and regions, Apple has very quietly made unlocked iPhones, not tied to any specific carrier, available for sale in Hong Kong.
Of course, they’re for sale at a premium, about $695 for the 8GB model and $798 for the 16GB, compared to $199 and $299 in the US, where the phone is tied to AT&T. Previously the iPhone was tied to Hutchison Telecommunications on a two-year contract in Hong Kong.

Lawmakers Set Sights On Violent Video Games
From the AP story:
“Pediatricians and psychologists have been warning us that violent video games are harmful to children,” said Mary Lou Dickerson, a Democratic legislator in Washington state who wrote a law now being challenged in federal court – banning the sale of some violent games to kids. “I’m optimistic that the courts will heed their warnings.”
Lawmakers in at least seven states proposed bills during the most recent legislative session that would restrict the sale of games, part of a wave that began when the 1999 Columbine High School shootings sparked an outcry over games and violence. None of the measures that passed have survived legal challenge.
