Nintendo launched its next-generation Wii gaming console in North American this weekend, and, sadly, the product launch was defined as much by what didn’t happen as by the console itself: although thousands of gamers braved the elements and waited for hours to be among the first to set hands on the new systems, the introduction of the Wii sparked none of the violence and mayhem which characterized the launch of Sony’s PlayStation 3 just two days before.

Nikon Coolpix 5200 Review
Quote from the review:
“The Coolpix 5200 (and Coolpix 4200) are the newest weapons in the war against red-eye. The exclusive Nikon red eye fix feature is activated when the camera is set to the red eye reduction flash mode. A pre-flash minimizes red eye as the first step. The camera then analyzes the picture using powerful image processing and analysis technology. In-Camera Red-Eye Fix incorporates years of image processing and imaging analysis technology and know-how. The process is completely automatic and transparent to the user. The user will simply experience a reduction in the number of pictures with red eye. There are limitations to the feature as the system is optimized to the flash operating distance.

SD Memory Card Sales Surpass CompactFlash
The SD Memory Card captured the number one position with 30 percent of the U.S. flash memory market in October against 28.8 percent for the CompactFlash Card. In third place was Memory Stick, with a22 percent market share. Panasonic is a co-developer of SD Memory cards along with Toshiba and SanDisk.
Joseph Unsworth, analyst – Semiconductor Memories for Gartner Inc., noted: “The recent success of the SD Card in the retail channel is in line with my expectations of the SD Card becoming the leading flash card format. The SD Card is well-positioned in terms of performance, cost, and industry support across many applications and that is why I expect the SD card to have the largest share of revenue of all of the flash card formats in 2004.”
New mobile console to offer GPS positioning
The system, which is being developed by Tiger Telematics subsidiary Gametrac Europe, is due for launch in Q2 2004, and sports a comprehensive feature-set for a mobile device, including Bluetooth support and a built in digital camera.
Interestingly, however, the device doesn’t seem to be built to allow voice calls – making it very much into a game system with added wireless functionality, rather than a replacement mobile phone. It will however support MP3 music and MPEG4 movie playback.
