Hitachi Rolls Out Consumer HDDs and Network Storage Adapter

Some readers may remember when Hitachi bought storage developer Fabrik earlier this year for an undisclosed amount, including Fabriks’s SimpleTech line of external consumer-friendly devices. Now, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies has announced the first products that represent the fruit of that acquisition: two new consumer hard disk drives and a new network storage adapter that lets folks easily pop their USB drives on their network for convenient access.

“Today’s announcement further extends the Hitachi GST brand into the consumer market with the reliability, confidence, and dependability you would expect from one of the world’s leading hard drive suppliers,” said Hitachi GST branded business general manager Mike Williams, in a statement. “Re-branding SimpleTech to the Hitachi brand is an important step in differentiating our solutions in the marketplace.”

US Modular Launches 4GB Monster Drive

The new Monster Drives fit in the palm of your hand and transfers files to your computer using the built in USB post. US Modular says the drives are ideal for transferring MP3’s, pictures, or for storing a backup of your computer. Their Monster Drives do not require any outside power and can run strictly off your USB port.

For power users, a 4-gig model will also be available. Priced at $99 and $169, respectively, the Monstor Drives will begin shipping in February.
