HP To Use SiS Chipsets In AMD64 Systems

Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS) today announced its SiS760 and SiS964 core logic chipsets will be used within the AMD64 platform design as part of select HP consumer desktop PCs.

The HP consumer desktops based on SiS760 will target the mainstream and value PC users of the AMD K8 market segment.

“The selection of SiS by HP as their supplier for this AMD Athlon 64 platform demonstrates the continuation of SiS’ track record of providing leading-edge solutions to the PC market,” said Daniel Chen, President and CEO of SiS. “The SiS760 with Integrated VGA North Bridge and SiS964 South Bridge for an AMD64 platform delivers to customers the widest range of feature options, performance, and interface capabilities. Coupled with SiS advantages of cost, quality, and performance, this makes the SiS AMD Athlon 64 solution a solid choice.”

SiS Releases New Notebook Chipsets

From SiS’ press release:

SiS Plans PCI Express Motherboards For June

Silicon Integrated Systems Corp (SiS) today announced the market leading position of its latest southbridge supporting the new PCI-E standard, the SiS965L. Motherboards incorporated with SiS PCI-Echipsets are ahead of competitors to be provided to the market in June.

Compatible with Mature and Current Northbridge Chips–the Ultimate Combination and Flexibility
Built to PCI-E standards, the SiS965L southbridge is SiS’ premier core logic chipset and outshines the competition, whether in the time-to-market delivery or the flexible northbridge and southbridge combination. The SiS965L can be paired with either a mature or current SiS northbridge to keep overall costs lower. SiS customers can choose to have PCI-E in the southbridge, while going with a proven and reliable solution for the northbridge. By giving customers a broader range of choices, they are able to meet their market segmentation requirements more easily, as well as save on development costs. This flexible combination has created a new market demand, compelling consumers to rush to be the first to experience the new generation efficiency of PCI Express. This kind of market-oriented flexibility is what makes SiS the ideal choice for performance and value.

New SiS Component Ready For PCI-Express

From SiS’ press release:

Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS), today announced the release of it’s newest high performance Southbridge for the PC market. The 965L supports the new PCI-Express standard for high-speed, next generation peripheral connectivity, and is totally compatible with current-generation SiS chipsets.

The new PCI-Express standard is phasing out the standard PCI slots that have been the basis of the PC hardware I/O system for the past decade. With PCI-Express, users can expect their PC’s to be upgradeable to the next generation of high-performance peripheral devices designed specifically for the higher bandwidth that PCI-Express offers, such as graphic cards, WLAN cards, sound cards, HDD, capture cards and printers.

SiS Launches New Mobile Athlon Chipset

Supporting a 333 MHz FSB and high-speed DDR400 RAM, SiS says the SiSM741 chipset is the most powerful mobile AthlonXP chipset currently available, boasting integrated graphics and SiS’s exclusiveHyperStreaming Technology.

When combined with the SiS162 wireless networking chipset, the M741 and 162 chipsets offer users a reliable high performance wireless networking solution for mobile platforms: SiS is currently the only chipset company able to offer a combined wireless chipset solution for the mobile AthlonXP platform. This combined wireless SiS solution, along with the integrated graphics in the chipset, mean that service and support issues can be dealt with much more smoothly.

SiS to ship Xbox I/O chips

“We’re integrating SiS’ cutting edge, media I/O technologies into future products to create innovative Xbox products and services that serve the digital entertainment lifestyle,” said Todd Holmdahl, general manager of Xbox Hardware at Microsoft.

Both companies declined to detail the availability of the chips or the approximate launch of the next-generation Xbox game consoles.

SiS 655FX Chipset review

Quote from the review:

“With the 655FX, SIS are introducing an interesting new technology known as ‘HyperStreaming’… but more on that in a moment. By default the SIS 655FX supports Intel Pentium 4 processors running on a400-thru-800 MHz FSB. The chipset also packs in a dual channel PC3200 memory controller, meaning it can provide the Pentium 4 with up to 6.4GB/s of bandwidth.”
