Social networking developer Slide—perhaps best known for hts FunSpace and Top Friends social networking applications—has inked a deal with major media companies to distribute video content on the popular social networking site Facebook via a new application called FunSpace Channels. Partners include Warner Brothers, CBS Interactive, and Comcast’s E! Entertainment channel—plus Hulu, the online video joint venture between NBC Universal and News Corporation. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Slide says it has ad revenue sharing agreements with “key partners.” Some reports have Slide both selling ad space in the channels directly, as well as participating in revenue sharing in ads run by its media partners.

Making math cool is a tough sell, but you can’t blame Texas Instruments for trying. As part of this year’s annual back-to-school frenzy, TI has released new colorful editions of its TI-84 Plus Silver Edition graphing calculator, a staple for high school students across the country.
The calculators, which were once available only in sparkly silver cases, now come in pink, orange, purple and blue, with separate slide cases and faceplates to allow students to swap between them. To allow students further customization, TI also offers an online application where students can design and customize their own decals for the calculators.

Back in the pre-crash days of the dot-com revolution, it was possible to tell which technologies and sectors were hottest by keeping track of where venture capitalists and financial institutions invested their money. These days, all the buzz seems to be around social networking, and investors seem to be willing to put their money where their buzzers are: Facebook application developer Slide has managed to raise $50 million in a round of institutional financing. Slide develops some of the most popular software applications/widgets used on social networking sites like Facebook, Bebo, and MySpace. The company’s best known applications include FunWall, SuperPoke, and Top Friends.

Members of the text-messaging generation will be thrilled to learn T-Mobile and Danger have put an end to month of speculation by announcing two new Sidekick mobile devices, each aiming at different segments of the messaging-savvy market.
First, the top-of-the-line Sidekick LX will offer a 3-inch QVGA display—more than twice the resolution of the previous high-end model—along with a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and the ability to send and receive messages with pictures. The LX ships with 128 MB of microSD storage, a stereo hands-free headset, and (like previous Sidekicks) the unit sports a full QWERTY keyboard, along with email and Web-browsing capability. Expect to see the LX in stores October 24 in blue and brown for $299 with a two-year contract.
Kodak stops making slide projectors
“The Kodak slide projector has been a hallmark for quality and ubiquity, used for decades to produce the best in audio visual shows throughout the world,” the company said. “However, in recent years, slide projectors have declined in usage, replaced by alternative projection technologies.”
Kodak has produced millions of slide projectors over the decades and, although many are still in use today, the number of new slide projectors manufactured has dropped significantly. Some remaining market segments consist of specialty applications in museums, planetariums, cinemas and educational institutions. Slide projectors can also still be found in use among advanced amateur photographers.
