When it comes to GPS units, sometimes it’s all about the screen size: nothing is worse than knowing you have perfect directions in front of you, but having to lean forward and squint while driving to try to figure out where you’re going. Nextar wants to ease that pain, announcing new SNAP5 and SNAP7 GPS units that sport 5- and 7-inch touchscreen displays, respectively, along with photo and music capabilities and Tele Atlas maps of the U.S. and Canada.
Adaptec’s purchase price of the company that makes the Snap Server 1100, reviewed here on Designtechnica, is expected to be approximately $100 million, including future cash and stock compensation. This amount represents approximately $91 million of cash and $9 million of assumed stock options. Adaptec expects the transaction to generate more than $40 million in new revenue over the next four quarters and the acquisition is expected to be accretive to Adaptec by the end of this calendar year.
