Massive Criminal Server Exposed

Massive Criminal Server Exposed

At the Black Hat conference last week, Joe Stewart of security firm SecureWorks reported on shutting down the main server for Coreflood, a criminal network that grew from a Trojan to become a massive repository of stolen data.

Coreflood was really noticed in 2004, when hackers infected a company with a Trojan and stole money from a US company. After that, however, it appeared to go underground. But earlier this year SecureWorks and Spamhaus shut down one of its servers and discovered 50 GB of stolen data – although SecureWorks says more than four times this amount had been previously harvested and discarded. The data included 3,233 credit card usernames and passwords, 8,485 bank and credit union usernames and passwords – all in all, a total of just under half a million usernames and passwords to over 35,000 domains.

YouTube Calls Comedians Stewart and Colbert

As YouTube—and its parent company Google— prepare to defend themselves against a $1 billion copyright infringement lawsuit brought against them by media conglomerate Viacom, the popular video sharing Web site has made an interesting move: it has requested testimony from Comedy Central’s well-known "fake news" comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. Comedy Central is owned by Viacom; the two host The Daily Show with John Stewart and its offshoot The Colbert Report, clips of which were both among the most popular items posted to YouTube by its users.

Sirius Annouces Progamming Additions

There are some major programming line up changes coming to the Sirius Satellite Radio Network September 29, the company said today. Highlights of these changes include the addition of the Howard Stern and Martha Stewart channels.

While Stern will not actually start until January, his new channels will function in a preview mode to keep listeners aware of the build up to their formal launch. The Martha Stewart Living Radio, meanwhile, will focus on advice from Stewart’s team of experts as well as call in advice. The channel will ultimately expand to carry a full roster of shows covering a variety of topics such as cooking, pet keeping and weddings.
