Rock Now Owned By Stone

Rock Computers were known in the UK for its laptops, but had hit financial problems, going into administration earlier this month due to cash flow problems supposedly caused by a former employee’s stock misappropriation.

Now, in one of these twists you couldn’t make up, Rock has been acquired by Stone Computers, one of the UK’s largest domestic computer makers, with the government and schools among its clients. Samsung Lifts Curtain on S2 and S3 PMPs

Samsung has been discretely showing off its upcoming S2 and S3 MP3 players since March, but the company finally let full specs on the Zen Stone and iPod Nano competitors drop on Wednesday. Both players are being marketed as much for their stylish designs as for what’s inside.

With an obvious nod to the Creative Zen Stone, the S2 “Pebble” will come in the shape of a rounded-edge stone, available in black, white, red, green, and purple. Rather than an LCD screen, it uses a blinking LED hidden in the bottom to flash patterns representing which playback modes have been selected – a kind of Morse code for PMPs. It comes only in 1GB capacity, and Samsung claims the rechargeable lithium-polymer battery should last for a full 13 hours of playback, almost enough to listen to a full 1GB worth of music.

For that crowd, Creative has introduced a spruced up version of the Zen Stone that keeps the price down but adds a few more creature comforts.

Creative has apparently decided it doesn’t live in a glass house: today, the company announced a tiny new digital music player dubbed the Zen Stone, due to hit retailers in six colors on May 14 at a suggested price of just $39.99.
