Computer maker Gateway—recently acquired by Taiwan’s Acer—has announced several new notebook and desktop PC models aimed at mass market retailers and targeted especially at the back-to-school market as parents and students get ready for a new academic year. Starting prices on the new systems range from $549.99 to $1,149.99, and Gateway has even assembled a new online retail (ahem) gateway to help users peruse the company’s offerings and find a retailer offering specific models.

It’s that time of year again: Looking to drive hype for its PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable systems, Sony has lifted the veil on upcoming games for 2008 and early 2009, giving gamers a glimpse of what to expect in the year to come. The list of 15 titles includes some much-anticipated updates to existing franchises as well as some relative newcomers.
Summer Storms Spur Electronics Warnings
Summer is reaching its height in the northern hemisphere, and with it has come another round of speculation whether cell phones—or Apple’s ubiquitous iPod media players—attract lightning. In 2005, a Canadian jogger was struck by lightning while listening to his iPod; the bolt threw him two and a half meters, ruptured his eardrums, and left him with a broken jaw and a Y-shaped burn on his neck and chest where electricity leapt up the earphone wires. Last year a Colorado teen suffered similar (though less severe) injuries when lightning struck nearby while he was mowing the lawn—and listening to Metallica on his iPod.
Wherefore Art Thou, Will?
Google is many things: a search engine, a software developer, a news aggregator, provider of mapping software and mobile services, a controversial giant among Internet companies which makes even companies like Microsoft wince with the flexing of its technical and fiscal muscles.
But every now and then Google does a comparatively tiny things which is just kinda neat, like: a site dedicated to Shakespeare.

High-Def Formats Delayed Further?
Already into 2006, we need not wait much longer until our new high-definition formats like Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are delivered to us. However we may have to wait longer as there’s currently a problemconcerning the final method of copy protection for these new formats. The final specification of the Advanced Access Content System (AACS) has been delayed for now. So what does this mean? It meanswe wait. There is nothing that can really be done to speed along a process concerning copy-protection methods. Surely studios and directors will want this done properly so that no one can break it asquickly as DVD.
Newly Re-designed Nintendo DS On It’s Way
Nintendo has been king of the handheld market for over 15 years now. During this time, they haven’t had to worry much about competition due to past failures like the Game Gear, Lynx, and Neo GeoPocket. However, in 2005, when Sony released their PSP gaming system, Nintendo had to worry. Nintendo is now launching a totally re-designed DS with hopes of making a comeback and bringing them backinto the limelight.
PS2 And Xbox Low On Supply
“Major shortages of the PlayStation 2 console have been ongoing since the end of Summer in some areas, but have reached a head following the launch of the redesigned slimline “PStwo” – which massively increased demand for the system.
Although Microsoft is believed to be benefiting from Sony’s difficulty in fulfilling demand for the PS2, the situation isn’t entirely rosy for the rival firm either, with US retail sources indicating that Xbox stock is also in short supply.”
