THQ has announce that Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor has gone gold and been released to manufacturing, opening another chapter in the publisher’s Company of Heroes World War II-based real-time strategy franchise. Built by in-house Warhammer and Dawn of War developer Relic Entertainment, Tales of Valor adds three new single-player campaigns, three new multiplayer modes, and a new “direct fire” feature that gives players a whole new level of control in battle—and THQ promises this installment offers the most intense combat in the franchises’ history to date.

Google Book Search For iPhone and Android
If you’ve ever dreams of reading literary classics on your iPhone or Android device instead of buying a Kindle or working to shoehorn free etexts onto your phone, Google has some good news for you: the company has launched a mobile version of Google Book Search (point your phones here) that provides mobile access to more than 1.5 million public domain books—at least in the United States. (Outside the U.S., selection is currently limited to half a million titles.)
THQ Drops Details on Next Company of Heroes
Continuing its line of World War II real-time strategy games, THQ announced the third addition to the Company of Heroes series on Monday with Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor. The next title will include three single-player campaigns, new multiplayer modes, and an all-new “direct fire” feature.
The most intriguing new change to gameplay for existing fans of the series will likely be the addition of direct fire. Though developer Relic hasn’t completely explained how it will work, the compant claims it will give players more tactical control of their units and strategic options in the game.
Xbox 360 Outsells PS3 in Japan
According to Japanese publisher ASCII Media Works, weekly sales of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 game console beat out sales of Sony’s PlayStation 3 in Japan for the first time in early August, driven by the launch of the much-anticipated Tales of Vesperia title from Namco Bandai.
ASCII Media Works says Sony moved 10,705 PlayStation 3 units in the week ending August, 10th, but Microsoft pushed 28,116 Xbox 360 units into the Japanese market during the same time period. It marks the first time the Xbox 360 has outsold the PS3 in Japan since the PS3 was launched in late 2006. Of course, bth machines lagged behind the Nintendo Wii, which sold 41,044 units the same week.

He started out as one of the barbarians challenging the hated status quo and eventually became a part of the new hated status quo for the following generation. He, and Microsoft, provide a cautionary tale for Google in that just as Google has positioned itself with its “do no evil” model as the anti-Microsoft, Microsoft positioned itself as the anti-IBM and eventually became much of what it didn’t like as it aged.
Sony Drops PlayStation Portable Price
Sony said today they were dropping the price of the PlayStation Portable portable video gaming system from $199.99 for the Core Pack to $169.99. This price drop follows the second anniversary of the launch of the PSP.
Sony said that in 2006 hardware PSP shipments rose to nearly 25 million units worldwide, with more than one million new PSP systems sold in North America in December. Software shipments increased to more than 90 million units last year, which may see more of a bolster this year with the addition of Daxter and Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror to the $19.99 Greatest Hits program.
Xbox Live Expands Video Roster
Microsoft has announced new expansion to the video offerings carried on its Xbox Live service, bringing new high-definition content from major Hollywood Studios to Xbox 360 owners, as well as new television and DVD content—including material which will debut on Xbox Live at the same time it’s first released on DVD.
New content coming to Xbox Live will be from A&E Network (Dog the Bounty Hunter,King of Cars,Gene Simmons Family Jewels,Driving Force, and Criss Angel Mindfreak), National Geographic (Is It Real? and Taboo,21 Days to Baghdad, and Air Force One), action- and extreme-sports offerings from TotalVid.com, and Japanese anime from ADV Films.
New IBM Speech Tech Aims to Be Superhuman
IBM has unveiled Embedded ViaVoice 4.4, which offers freeform command recognition, on-the-fly translation and subtitling services, and can claim to comprehend some nuances of spoken English. The technology is designed to enable users to control systems embedded in vehicles, handheld devices, and other non-computer applications to speak flexibly and naturally to devices without having to memorize and carefully pronounced pre-defined spoken commands.
Eidos Signs LEGO Star Wars
The game will be released in April 2005 for the PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system, Xbox(R) video game system from Microsoft, PC and Game Boy(R) Advance.
LEGO Star Wars combines two childhood favourites, LEGO and Star Wars(R), to create an innovative and exciting action-adventure title designed for young gamers. The game is based on The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and the eagerly awaited Star Wars(R): Episode III Revenge of the Sith(TM), slated for worldwide release in May 2005.
Under an agreement between LucasArts and Giant Interactive Ltd, LEGO Star Wars is currently being developed by Traveller’s Tales for the PlayStation2, Xbox and PC. Amaze Entertainment is developing the Game Boy Advance version.
