Back in October, movie rental outfit Netflix announced a deal with TiVo that would enable owners of TiVo HD, Series3, and HD XL DVRs who are also Netflix subscribers to stream movies and programming directly to their DVRs. Now, the companies have made good on the promise, announcing that, as of today, that folks with appropriate DVRs who subscribe to both services can now tap into thousands of TV episodes and movies instantly via their broadband Internet connection. And there’s an extra bonus: Netflix is also making a selection of HD content available.

TiVo Plans To Bring YouTube to TVs
TiVo has announced it has reached an agreement with online video sharing site YouTube to enable owners of its Series3 and TiVO HD DVRs to access YouTube videos and display them on their home TVs. TiVo has not set a date for when the service might be available, promising only too offer it “later this year.”
Amazon and TiVo Team for Unbox Downloads
Just yesterday Wal-Mart entered the video download business, but today Amazon.com and TiVo fired back, announcing that they’ve begun testing a service which lets customers download movies and television shows from Amazon’s Unbox video download service directly to TiVo set-top boxes—no computer required.
“The television is and will continue to be the preferred platform for watching video content, and TiVo is leading the charge in offering broadband-delivered content to the living room,” said Tara Maitra, TiVo’s VP and general manager of programming, in a statement. “By adding Amazon Unbox on TiVo, we are expanding the TiVoCast service to include movies, television shows, and other premium content, giving TiVo subscribers access to the full range of video programming a consumer may want.”
